I recently bought the IcyBox caddy;

Its fantastic, but if I want to swap to a different drive I have to unscrew the current one and mount the new one. If I had a spare 'tray' for each drive, then swapping drives would be a lot easier.

I've searched everywhere for a spare 'tray' but no where sells them, only whole units. At £18 per drive it makes buying swappable HDD's uneconomical.

Am I missing something here or do I buy a new unit for each drive and throw away most of what I have paid for?

Thanks Snapshot,
Thats just what I need, why dont OcUK dont stock it? Think they are missing out on a growing market as lots of people buy bigger drives for their system, but with one of these they can still use all the old drives for extra storage !

I thought the same thing too, surely a "Server" pack should include say 5 bays that fit in the PC, then 15 trays for hard drives? Normally you'll have more hard drives in the tray than bay enclosures.

Read the rules dude... use some sense and email him using his trust instead of openly asking for the competitor info. :)

I'm sorry but if OCUK don't stock them it's not my problem. Simple as that. I buy from them a lot unless I find it cheaper.

No need to apologise... you just need to be aware that the forum rules specifically forbid openly asking for competitor links. It's up to you whether you abide by that or get banned, I couldn't give a monkeys either way to be honest. :)

Yeh but what happenes if their email address wasn't shown. There is no other way unless they contact you via your trust is there? If they don't have an email address then what? that's why I asked to contact me via my trust. Makes it easier incase they just don't want to email you at all then they won't.

Well if I get banned it's no sweat off my nose though (not that I want to). It's a forum plenty of others around, with less strict rules.

Anyway cheers for the heads up.

His email address was in his trust...;)

A quick question, Does the trayless IcyBox fan stay on when the drive is turned off?

Looks a great product.
No, it doesn't. The fan is, to be honest, a little noisy so it's just as well it doesn't stay on but otherwise it's an excellent unit. It works well enough on my 965-DS4 mobo but I have to do a refresh in Device Manager to pick up the drive when I insert it. With my P35-DS4 it's picked up automatically by XP. In both cases I uninstall the drive in device manager when I want to remove it. The largest drive I've tried in them is a 250GB Spinpoint and it runs slightly warmer than the drives behind the case input fans but certainly not hot. I recommend it and we should encourage OcUK to stock them.

Just so I'm not making a new thread does anybody know of any caddies that have both sata and IDE as a solution OR the same style caddies with IDE/SATA (I may have to result in buying 2 different models or makes).

EDIT: I was thinkin about ordering 2 of these IcyBox Trayless IB-168SK-B [No Fan/No Caddy].... Brilliant for pc repairs and diagnostics!
