IcyBox Internal Caddy

Thank you both for your excellent reviews. The only question I have which may be answered already but Im still unsure of is, what power connection does each one have? I need a molex as I am all out of sata plugs on my PSU. If the trays are sata only Ill have to order a molex-sata adaptor when I order a tray. Thanks for your help guys its really really appreciated :)

The one I have uses a has a sata connector on the enclosure but comes with a molex adapter which must be used to power the fan/led. I am using a molex to power the unit.

I suppose it could be a 'con' as some systems may need a fresh install.

Not the fault of the hardware just a overall 'con'

Possibly, although if the motherboard has two SATA controllers it might be worth connecting the SATA cable to the other one and see if it shows up in the normal Windows "Safely Remove Hardware" list. And even a reformat/reinstall may not fix the problem (it wouldn't in my case).

I do realise it's a subjective review, of course, but I thought it was still worthwhile to point out that one of the problems listed in 'Con' is not a problem with the item being reviewed.

Anyway, both reviews are good :)

I can now safely say I can now hotswap my drives after a format. I have edited the review above.

Nice. I wish it would for me as well!

After XP SP2 format I could not hotswap 'UNTIL' I installed the nVidia chipset driver for my board.

Before I might have missed that install out by a mistake. I suggest you give it ago.

My problem isn't the Nvidia SATA controller (drives connected to this can be hotswapped), but the Silicon Image controller which Asus has included on this board. The latest driver from SI doesn't resolve this for me (XP SP2 as well), nor does the Asus drivers (which are pretty much direct from SI anyway, with a fancy installer).

HotSwap will have to do for me - at least I don't have to use Disk Management every time I want to hot swap.

Oh i get it now, pictures are a bit dark so I thought the cable was attached lol. Increased brightness on my monitor and all is revealed. Looks like im going for the 168 over the 169, looks like what I want :) Thanks again guys.

I made the images lighter as you can tell from the pics now.
