IDE AHCI problem

I noticed that my SATA was in IDE mode, I changed it to AHCI to see if it made any difference.

I haven't seen any change but when I boot I get a message saying no drivers found. It still works ok.

I've since found out that this could be a problem and I should have done it this way :-

1. Startup "Regedit
2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlset / Services
3. Open msahci
4. In the right field left click on "start" and go to Modify
5. In the value Data field enter "0" and click "ok"
6. exit "Regedit"
7. Reboot Rig and enter BIOS (hold "Delete" key while Booting

In your BIOS select "Integrated Peripherals" and OnChip PATA/SATA Devices. Now change SATA Mode to AHCI from IDE.

You now boot into windows 7, the OS will recognize AHCI and install the devices. Now the system needs one more reboot and voilla .. enjoy the improved SSD performance.

Is it safe to change it back to IDE and then do the above?

wazza300 I tried updating the reg and setting BIOS to AHCI.

When I tried to restart I keep getting an error msahci.sys corrupt.
There is no file msachi.sys installed.

I didn't want to use the Windows repair function due to bad experiences in the past.
I did get XP working by returning to previous working version.

I've done some searches but all I find are so called fixer programs. I don't see how these would help as I can't boot windowsXP to run them. They always seem to want £30 quid as well.

I just don't know how to get XP to work in ACHI mode.

Sorry I missed that, I'm actually trying to get it to work for both xp and 7 and got a bit confused.

Lucky I've got it all working again in IDE mode.

I'm going to do some backups before trying again with XP.
Win 7 can wait for now.

Thanks.

ok its the first reg file i posted for win7,should just run it pop into bios anable ahci and boot in win7 and thats it

for xp its the guide on the first page and drag the rst driver file to windows system 32 folder reboot set ahci then boot into xp
