hi guys
getting my small home file server up and running properly for its first time,
i ran into some issues.
The IDE hard drive will not boot if the jumper pins are on master, the bios wont recognise the hdd at all.
To get it to recognise and boot from the drive, i have to set the pins to slave.. which is all fine, in a way.
But now i want to install 3 more hard drives, i cant select them all as slaves.
i was going to use both the primary and secondary IDE controllers up, with two drives per controller.
ideally it was meant to be, OS drive MASTER, 3 data drives as SLAVE,
but since my master os drive is actually running on slave pins, how do i go around this?

and why dont it recognise it on master pins????

thanks

Are you plugging the drive into the correct plug on the cable?

Try setting the drive to cable select and use the end plug on the ide cable.

When the drives are on master and slave jumpers, it doesnt matter what position on the cable you plug them into. It only matters on cable select.
Which cable select would be no good for me, because on primary controller i want a master and a slave, but on secondary i want two slaves. so 1 OS drive and 3 data drives. if i put cable select, then the two drives i want as both slaves, will be set one master and one select

You will always have one master and one slave on each channel.
You cant have two salves on the secondary channel.

BTW what is the make and model of the drive that wont show up when set to master?
