I've just brought a IDE to SATA adaptor but i can't seem to get the adaptor to work and unfortunatly it comes with no instructions. I've attached all the wire and have heard the hard disk spin and light on the adaptor come on but BIOS won't recongnise the drive. Has anyone got any suggestions?

Just in case it makes a difference the motherborard is a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L

Is it one of them PCI ones?
If so you will need drivers for it.

There is a converter that just plugs into the back of a IDE HD and converts it that way.
I have not seen them in the shows for ages though.

Yeh I have seen them but never used one.
Is it set to Master or slave? if you have tried both then try the 3rd one
(cant think whats it called now lol).

If its your 2nd/3rd HD then try it on its own see if it shows up.

This is an IDE HDD connecting to a SATA port on the motherboard?

Have you confirmed that the drive works OK when connected directly to the IDE port on the board?

dont know if this helps, but there are 2 types.1 that connects to hard drive and 1 that connects to mobo.so you need to check which 1 you have.

I've got one on my 120gb IDE Seagate drive and it's fine through the SATA port, but I'm not sure what setting it is on, I'll check later.

I have a similar problem i bought the SATA to IDE adaptor that plugs into the IDE port on the back of the hard drive then a SATA cable from there to the motherboard. Vista didnt detect it tho. Its set to MASTER. I have a power supply to the hard drive and a suplly to the adapter.

Do i need to set anything up in BIOS?
