Hi friends.

I happen to have a spare Serilell2 IDE adapter from my ABIT NF7Srev2 mobo.
I have never used this with a IDE harddrive, but from what I gather it upgrades the IDE device to SATA?

Has anyone tried these? Are they reliable? I think I might have spilled some coffe on it, you reckon it could cause problems?

Dont want to fry my setup :)

I used the same adapter for almost a year, no problems at all :)

Assuming that your coffee has dried ( did it have sugar in it ? ) then you should be ok ;)

Not sure if I noticed any difference in performance using the adapter but at least my cables were smaller / neater

It's just an alternative interface so won't 'improve' performance as such.

Ah well, you should have spilled oil on it - it makes the data more slippy so it slides through quicker...

Harddisk speed is limited by the drive , not the interface so you will not notice a speed difference.

Main benefit is the smaller SATA cables.

If you want the other benefits of SATA like NCQ, staggered spinup and hot swapping you need a SATA harddisk

I had problem with it when I used it with my new build (also for the purpose of thinner cable). Long story short, I lost my partition.

Well, could be a one off I suppose, but I'll stay away from that in the future.

Bear in mind that if you try to 'migrate' a windows partition you will be in for a rude surprise as you'll have to crowbar on the sata drivers etc - but for standard data partitions you shouldn't have any issues. I ran a Hdd and a DVD of mine and never had any issues - again, could have been luck ;)

(If you've got a spare drive kicking about you could always do a backup first then once the drive is bedded in just restore the old data!)
