Heya guys my dad will be getting a new system in september/october time and I was going to tell him to get the Asus P5N motherboard because it has 2 IDE channels but with the new processors using the new P5K motherboards its looking like the IDE channel will be used by the DVDRW.

I was just wondering if the SATA drives were as simple as the IDE's to set up (ie plug and play, just slap the HDD in and install windows) ?

Yeah, pretty much whack the drive in and go, no master / slave jumpers to worry about either. I'd give the BIOS a quick check though, most will default to running the SATA ports in a "legacy" mode which means no drivers are required during the Windows install however if it's set to run them in AHCI or RAID you'll probably need to supply drivers to the install.

I am a LONG way from experiencing RAID so no worries there lol.

atm I personally have
AMD64 3500
2GB DDR1 Memory
7800GTX

and I am sorry to say it does everything I want it to and plays everything I want it to and until I find something I cant play/do efficiently enough I feel no need to upgrade.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know when the 7800GTX was released because I purchased this whole system when this card was released and I cant remember what year/month that was lol
