Ideal CPU Temps?

Under normal conditions, I get 36oC on my temperature readings for my CPU. Under a heavy load, say playing CS:GO, I get a max of 77oC, is this too high? I am afraid of burning it out or something, thanks!

It's a little high, but nothing to worry about. Right now my 3930k is 34c and on max load it doesn't exceed 55c. But that's due to a H100 ;) What cooler do you have?

Is this overclocked? What cooler? 77C is fine for like IBT or Prime, gaming though... seems a little on the warm side there.

What CPU?
What Cooler?
What Overclock?
What Ambient Temps?
Without full info nobody can answer this question at all.

To a certain degree yes, but 77C gaming is warm for just about any chip. Not certain but am guessing that that game isn't actually loading the system 100% so its not getting max heat yet.

Hi, don't forget its bloody hot depending what your room ambient temp is could put your temps up from 4>7'c + case cooling[air flow] + how effective your cpu cooling is as well.

Its 8.30 and my room ambient is at 25'c already > un:cool:

Best bet is to get a better cooler - the stock ones are less than great under load. Noctura's are good, if you can get them in your case and not interfere with you RAM, which is something I forgot to check :(

77C seems awfully hot even for a stock cooler, the 2320 in my bedroom HTPC barely cracks 65C under linx with no case fans and stock cooler (forced to, nothing else fits!) Then i undervolted it to 1.05v and it now barely breaks 52C on the hottest of days. Would reseat with new TIM or look at the case cooling.
Better heatsink would definetly help and be quieter though, no need for a Noctua class cooler for that cpu, (60+ quid for something not overclocked? nah)

Will do the job without breaking a sweat and be quiet.

Seeing as you have no overclock, buying a after market cooler really isn't needed. Waste of money in my opinion. Why not try and clean the stock heatsink and fan, and reseat it on the cpu with new TIM? That's what i would do anyway.

15 quid for better temps and much quieter operation is worth it, looks like his problem is bad case cooling which a better cooler can help with.

For a better cooler, would I also need to upgrade my PSU? I have only got 500W at the moment.

No, you don't need to upgrade the psu. Little worried that you'd ask this, did you build the pc?

Haha, don't be worried mate! Nope I didn't build it but I have built quite a few over the years, just not this one as I didn't have the time to! Cooling has never been one of my strong points and TBH I have never really had to do it before! So I am just making sure :)

Fair dos, up to you in the end but i think a 3rd party cheap cooler is the way foward. I have used the Alpenföhn Civetta in 2 2320 and one 2500 (non K) builds and am pretty impressed.

Yeah, I managed to get the temp down to 64-66, seems afterburner wasn't auto adjusting it so had fan speed at 44% for full load, but will probably still invest in one of those coolers, just to be on the safe side. Better to spend £15 now, than £200 if my CPU got burned out. Thanks for all the help man, very very appreciated!
