What would the ideal hard drive setup be for a high spec PC, in terms of OS Performance, Application and file performance and backup availability?

I was thinking the OS (Windows 7) and the installed applications would be best on an SSD. These wouldn't need backing up, however if costs permit a mirrored raid setup would save a few hours in the event of failure!

The Files and databases used by the applications can be put on a SATA 3GBs and the backup I wouldn't need instantaniously so I can set a daily backup schedule to a seperate drive.

Would this be a half decent setup? Or can anyone recommend a better one.

Ive done a bit of searching and this is the best method i can think of.

Forget mirrored RAID for a system drive. It's a pain in the neck when it comes to recovering after a crash. It would be less painful on SSD drives but it's still not really worth it. If you want optimal performance then you'd go for SSD drives in RAID 0, then do occasional backups to maintain your system setup.

Non-essential applications and personal data would, as you say, go onto another non-SSD drive, which could be mirrored if you wanted to reduce downtime but should always be backed up anyway.
