Ideally what size monitor would you game on?

Been happily using my dell 24" for a few years now, although I'm looking to increase that to 100" with the aid of a projector :D

so what is 3d gaming all about? or is it moreso for movies?

and why do we need 120hz for 3d ?

and will we need to wear glasses

You're talking about 3D gaming in the future tense, but it's actually been around since 2009:

even amd have had some sort of 3d capability for a while now:

If cost was no object then I'd have a high res 30" monitor (or maybe a triple 24" eyefinity setup), as it is I use a 1920x1080 24" one. I've tried gaming on a friends 42" lcd tv and though fine for consoles it doesn't have the clarity for gaming with a reasonable pc.

I game on 19" 1440 res because it gives me 75hz, whereas my 23" LCD gives me 60hz which is slow as hell. Ideally would love a 23" 120hz monitor :)

Biggest pile of **** I've seen posted in a while.60fps isn't slow refresh at all and you only really need 120hz monitor for 3d. How does 60fps feel slow for you? It's impossible

Use my 24inch screen for gaming at my desk, then on the odd occasion when I can be bothered to move the rig, I use my 52inch 200Hz sony at 1080p which is super smooth, but not the most comfortable to sit in front of.

22" is my favourite.

I'm using a rather old circa 2006 20", when it pops its clogs I'll get a 22". Thing is it could drag on forever...

The dvi output doesnt work on it, that might be reason enough to upgrade but tbh the quality seems perfect with the vga.

24" with a res of 1920x1200 does me fine :) eventually will go 3D later this year so 120Hz will come in handy.

By your response I'm guessing you've never used a 120hz monitor - or maybe just the wrong type of game? It's definetely not 'just for 3d'.

Try a UT or Quake at 120hz for a bit, go back to 60hz and then see if you still think its 'the biggest pile of....' you've seen posted in a while.

I owned a SM226BW for quite a while, 60hz + 2ms - widely regarded as a leading gaming monitor for a long time. Upgraded to the SM2233rz when it was released and the difference in games is apparent immediately - so much smoother and no way I would ever play on a 60hz again.

I was thinking 120hz more for online gaming than anything else, though yeah I wouldn't mind having the option of at least trying 3d.

40" for emulator/pad games, 22" for modern games, and the missus has stolen my 28" simply to run PvZ in a window :p

Gaming at 40" is awesome, and having played a few 360 pad games on a 50" I'm looking to upgrade - though for fps gaming at a desk I doubt I could go any higher than my 28" without having to sit further back.. So I'd say 24"-28" is ideal for kb/mouse games.
