Ideas for a Job.

I worked at a supermarket through college, 16 hours a week - was easy. Still work with the same supermarket and went to uni - I'm now doing 20 hours a week and studying...

You say the polish will take the jobs, but not all of them can speak great english. Don't be such a defeatist.

Oh and a 'Collage' is:

maths: C
english lang: c (lit: e :( )
science: cc
ict: bb

and some other meaningless ones (d's and e's and such)

School green? not heard of wherever it is?

Anyway, email is alec.hewitt [at] gmail.com

would be interested to hear what its all about?

If you wouldnt mind sparing me a few moments of your time anyway :) thank you!

They should be good enough, it's more about showing your keen to learn anyway.

I'm not 100% on the college course, it varies office to office.

I'll send you an email in the morning as the details are on the internal intranet and it's down tonight.

BTW it's School green, Shinfield - below the m4.

Shinfield, doable :) Well lets see what its all about.

Thanks for taking the time ! Cheers.

Lol forgot to tell you what it was.

It a trainee land surveyor position, you'd basically being going to lots of different sites helping and learning from a senior surveyor.

Company has lots of benefits and opportunities although it will be crap pay to start with.

I'll send you the full details tomorrow as I can recommend you internally and recieve a nice referral fee if you get it. :p

LOL, on that webpage www.natscareers.co.uk

You'll be on 10k while you attend the college in bournemouth for 6 months I believe, then that goes upto 14k when you do your unit training, rising to 18k toward the end of your training, then once you complete it, after 3 years, it jumps to 50k, rising to 60k within the year!

All that for 9 months work, and only 60% of that 9 months is actually worked (6days on 4 days off), and only 50% of the time you're at work are you working (30mins on, 30mins off break). Thus, you'll be earning 60k for working 164 days per year :D

I'm very interested in that NATs - Air Traffic Controller.

Is the course in Bournemouth a residential course? Or do you need to find your own accomodation?

EDIT: Have just applied for the Trainee ATCO Position and have to go to a test day in London on the 20th March. Can anyone give me a heads up on what the test session will entail?

Thanks

before doing something like that you ought to consider whether you'd enjoy it rather than thinking - mmm thats an OK salary and you don't have to go to uni

I'm sure that it is a fantastic career for people interested in planes etc.. but I doubt it is for everyone and is probably very boring for a lot of people

going to uni for 3 years, having a bit of fun and then going into a career that you'll enjoy & also pays 50-80k might be a better option - you'll spend about 40 years of your life working do you really want to spend that time sat at a desk talking to pilots over the radio if you're not really interested in planes

A lot of my colleagues have no interest in planes whatsoever but they love their job. There's a hell of a lot more to it than "sitting at a desk talking to pilots over the radio". Besides, they're not planes, they're green dots :)

Also, by the time others are finishing university and going into ~20k a year jobs (if they can get a job!), you're already on about £60k :D

I do agree with your point though. The job isn't for everybody and a lot of people will get a rude awakening if they make it to the college and begin training.

I've taken this into consideration already.

I'm currently at Uni/HE College studying for a foundation degree in computing and from there was going to go to Plymouth Uni to top up my foundation degree to a honours. I'm in my first year and to be honest although the workload isn't hard i am finding it very very boring.

I am 26 years old and was in the Army (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) for near enough 6 years. My trade was an Armourer and as you can imagine there are not too many civilian demands for this role.

College is ok and i can cope but not going to work and having a nice amount of cash in the bank each month does get me down a lot and there seems to be a lot of 17 + year old kids that would rather sit in lesson and mess about than learn, this also gets me down as i am there to learn.

The ATCO trainee program looks very rewarding to me and its guarenteed salary, employment and career. I don't have an interest in planes in the slightest but i do have an interest and experience in technology, radio operating and the military. I did notice that it's possible to get postings with the RAF, so Scuzi is there many postings available with the RAF?
