You should be able to get a citrus spray from the pet shop, they're meant to deter cats from scratching or climbing. If you didn't have kids, I'd suggest going without a tree this year :p.

The cat is obviously bored and needs something to play with. I once saw a programme on TV where they built a cat an indoor playground. You can probably buy climbing posts for cats, it needs something like that to keep it entertained. Then it might stay out of the tree. With the tree you must be able to put something around the base, a disk round the trunk or something, to block its path up.

Learn it from Traders secrets, rub the tree and surroundings with fresh lemon (juice). Cats don't like them citrus scent, so you can always squeeze the juice into a little water squirt and squirt all around there :)

That or lemon scented pleage.

Our cat was the same, anything from curtains to the tree although she seemed to grow out of it as she got older. Only occasionaly now would she go for a curtain if she was really attention seeking or something.

Like I said above, don't be so bloody cruel! Let your cat outside to explore naturally like a cat should do. The excuse you give for having a 'house cat' is lame at best! If you already knew you couldn't let the cat out then you shouldn't even think about owning a cat in the first place!

Give the cat to someone who actually gives a damn about the welfare of said feline!

You can get citrus sprays that will keep cats of furniture etc, maybe give that a try? However if he is just small and it's a fake tree, does it matter? :)

Cats in Xmas trees is hugely entertaining.

Both the cats at home have had numerous experiences of climbing up the tree, getting to the top, then the tree falling down with the cat tangled in tinsle.
Doesn't stop them doing it again though.

Get a water pistol and give him a squirt each time you see him up there. He'll soon learn. A water pistol is the finest tool available to man when it comes to teaching a cat what's acceptable and what's not.

Not going to get drawn into a indoor/outdoor cat argument though :D

Why not let the cat climb the damn tree?? As long as it won't topple over what's the harm? If you want a cat that justs sits there, buy a stuffed animal.
