Identifying metal box in garden.

Are the red house supply cables taking power from all 3 black cables or just from the black cable on the same bar as the red cable?

E.g is the pole in the middle metal too?

Each house would have one red cable going to it from the different phases.

Center bar may be metal but should insulated from the busbar supplying the houses.

nice find lol could have been free electric with the obvious risks.

although at least you can get connected upto 3phase for free as you dont pay for the meter, just bringing 3phase to your property which costs a fortune. And you already have it happy days.

like said before nice man cave. you can now use industrial metal/wood work machinery..... fit a commerical jacuzzi.... wife could have a commercial sun bed etc etc

The ability to fast-charge your Tesla when in a few years time we're all driving Electric Vehicles.

400v power figures look wrong in that table :p

The 400V refers to a three phase supply so the ~3x increase in power looks right. A domestic 230V single phase supply is created from a 3 phase by connecting together two adjacent phases or one phase and a ground. I don't really know quite how it works.

And yes, we need an update. Maybe OP is snuggling up to bubba at the mo after being nicked for tampering with the electrical supply  :p

1 phase and a neutral + an earth. 3ph uses each of the 3 phases as a neutral so just needs an earth.

Absolutely mental find. Odd that it wasn't on the plans.

Why would the electric company just put you in a 3ph supply foc? Or are they in a dubious position legally, i.e., you could sue them for this so they are doing you a favour to keep you sweet?

Probably dubious house builder that just left it and didn't arrange with the power distributor to have it moved as it would have cost them dearly no doubt. It's probably left over from some ex industrial that was on the land beforehand.

We have something similar in the carpark at work although it is shorter and has some barriers around it.

All that will happen I think is that they will put the lot into an underground joint, and do a bit of landscaping for you.
Id be surprised if you got a free 3 phase supply from it
