I’m amazed Brum isn’t up there! Oh, wait, we have the most uninsured cars in the country, just not most by percentage. Makes sense!

There is no wait, he is not banned and just needs to pass a normal driving test,

The cost of insurance is the only barrier, this is one of those cases where a 'black box' is probably the best option.

Therefore an almost guaranteed long wait unless his dad can afford or is willing to pay the astronomical insurance which I doubt, presumably the son wants his own car as well...........................................

Even if he passes his test and can legally drive good luck getting insurance at 17 with 6 points for TWOC and uninsured driving, it's bad enough for people with 0 points at that age.

What on earth made him decide to take the car in the first place?

frankly i'd ban anyone like this from applying for a licence in the first place. speeding, uninsured, and but the sounds of it unsupervised too?
we don't know why he was pulled over. Could have just been the police spotted him and just so happened to pull him. I'd hope this was the case and he was at least attempting to drive sensibly and not joy riding.

Well, licensed insured drivers hurt plenty of people too ;) And the victim is still covered by the MIB if he did have an accident. (No that's not justification in any way!)

I've just googled and I'm actually shocked at the numbers of unisured cars there are tbh!

I think the general estimate is that 1 in 20 vehicles is uninsured. What you can see from your numbers is that an uninsured driver is significantly more likely to be involved in an accident.

https://www.mib.org.uk/reducing-uninsured-driving/what-we-do/

Supports this.

As for unlicensed, can't find stats for the UK but in the US they're 3x more likely to kill someone.

Seem a bit weird that you can get 6 points on your provisional, take the test, get a full licence and have 6 points on that, but if you pass and then get 6 points on your full licence you get banned for two years.

my understanding is 6 and over so if you got 6 it's fine 6 and over you get banned.

Lol is East Central London 6.6% or all of them (1 in 1).
Andi.

Thanks for that extensive explanation of why it isn't.

However, your licence will be cancelled if you get any further penalty points that take you up to a total of 6 or more within 2 years of passing your driving test. However, your licence will be cancelled if you get any further penalty points that take you up to a total of 6 or more within 2 years of passing your driving test.

I think it's because there's another qualifying part of that statement - that it's "Further points that take you up to a total of 6 or more"

So what happens when you're on 6 already?

Is it ambiguous or just comprehension fail? :p
