IE7 crashing when opening

Hi guys,

Dad tried installing Limewire on a machine at his company and it just crashed half way through and from now on if and when you try and opening IE before the homepage is loaded you get a an error has occured would you like to send a report to Microsoft?


How can I sort this? I can't simply change browsers as their software doesn't work in Firefox...

I've removed IE and reinstalled it, run a chkdsk, cleared temp files....still no joy.

Any ideas people?

Doesn't Limewire install Java? Could have screwed IE up somehow.

Try Resetting IE by going into Internet Options, Advanced tab, Reset (at the bottom).

Not a chance mate, I've seen that break SO many machines, this is a work machine.

IE8? Didn't know that was out...well originally the problem was in IE6, so I upped it to IE7 and the problem stayed...so I doubt upgrading it will help, but I'll try.
 
Have you tried with the -noaddons ?

It sounds like an addon issue to me if you can get into it or try control panel / internet options and then disable all of the addons. Re-enable them one by one to find the problematic one.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the suggestions...I have managed to fix this now.

I first tried the no addons which didn't work (thanks for your suggestion though :))

Basically it was the Mcafee Viruscan they have installed, a file called 'entapi.dll' was causing the browser to crash when opening.

I renamed it to entapi.dll.old and the browser now opens fine...and have finally managed to talk them into using NOD32 which is now being downloaded.

Deffo one to remember this :)
