If CP2077 launched as the game it is today, would it have lived up to the pre-release hype?

There was A LOT of pre-release hype over Cyberpunk. Lets say it was first launched as the game it is currently after all its patches and fixes etc.
Would it have been enough to satisfy the expectations the world had set?

That is not the reason here though is it? They hyped it and promised something much better.

He's asking if it was released in the current state it is now, would people still moan about it? To be honest I can't remember what they promised but I'm pretty sure what we have now is pretty much it.

For me, no ... because CDPR promised meaningful factions in-game and multiple unique character journeys. The reality is interaction with factions is minimal ( outwith specific story missions ) and all the playable character paths converge after about 30 mins of gameplay. Still a great game , now anyway ... just not at launch.

I was never on the hype train for Cyberpunk, but I bought it when it when it was on that first hefty sale.
Even then it didn't grab me, and I found it disappointing. Didn't help that all the loot seemed rubbish, and it genuinely looked like I was wearing cheap Aldi bin bags when putting it on my char.

Haven't went back to it aside from testing the GPU on the canned benchmark, but I hear it's better now. After I finish this Skyrim playthrough on the Legion Go, I think I'll go for it.

There is a lot they can improve on. I think the sequel will hopefully deliver on what they were hoping to achieve.

I think one of reasons I am not drawn to replay it is because of the game not being as dynamic enough. Had they achieved what was hyped one would want to complete the game many times taking different routes. Also the story is not quite as good as I was hoping either. Never really cared for anyone in the game.

Going to replay it next year though and set difficulty to hard because my current build I can make ANYTHING melt super fast with my katana. Before respecing on the expansion I was a hacker and everything was super easy on that too.

It was an immersive game on release and it’s now very impressive, yet it still feels very empty, a huge city where you can still only explore a small fraction of the buildings and the NPC crowd doesn’t really do anything. I’ve loved my playthroughs, but it was still tipped to be a bit more than it was. I still don’t have my flying car either.

I agree. But would not say very immersive.

There is something about the game that is missing, for me anyway.

I have over 200 hours in the game and Phantom Liberty DLC and am looking forward to starting my 3rd play through (Corporate this time) and have really enjoyed every moment.

To answer the OP’s question: I believe if the game had launched as it stands now, it would still get well deserved criticism for some of the promised gameplay features not being anywhere near as fleshed out as advertised.

Life path choice makes little difference apart from a rare dialogue option every now and then after the first chapter of the story.

Not sure that you can progress through the story without being on good terms with the Aldecados and The Mox, to the Faction system doesn’t appear to work as promised.

Maybe my experience would differ if I didn’t kill Scavs, Mealstrommers, Tyger Claws and Voodoo Boys on sight after meeting each group once.

I picked it up finally around last Christmas. Played the hell out of it and really enjoyed my time with it.
Even so the hype at the time was surreal. People basically declaring it's the best game ever before even seeing the actual game. I don't think there was any way of living up to the hype it generated.

I really enjoyed my play through I waited till update 2.0 and a played through from there. I'd say 75% of it was delivered. Still a very good game and I enjoyed my play through think it cost me about £20 so I more than got my money out of it and still want to do another play through with the DLC.

It was talked to be an ocean deep in consequences for your actions, with NPC having a deep and meaningful life. Technicallly, I think it should have had better physics, too - amongst other things.

Now is shorter and ankle deep compared to The Witcher 3. It actually feels like it was a game or two before TW3 and not the next game after.

For me it finally sealed the deal to never, ever believe a word that CDPR says.

Would have helped if they delivered on what they showed though.
