If i were to get an external hard drive can i use that as my only one?

Hello my HDD just recently died on me. All the data i had doesn't worry me because i only really had games installed on there but seeming as there has been a massive surge in price of internal HDD's i am wanting to get an external HD but can i use that as my only hard drive on my computer?

In theory you probably can, but I wouldn't try it over USB.
You could take the drive out of the enclosure and put it in the PC, but you might lose the warranty.

Won't work with Windows over USB as part of the bootup sequence is to restart the USB hosts (and would be agonisingly slow unless you went for something like Linpus lite).
