If there could only be 1 games Developer

Nintendo for your classics every once and a while and EA for the sheer size and numbers despite the (goes without saying) support.

meh - can't stand Nintendo games and I really don't see the appeal if im honest!

For me it would have to be a team which put more into their games than would be considered to be required, they would have no competition driving them forward after all. Rockstar for the win :)

If you look back over the history of gaming, I'll think you'd find Nintendo have provided that quality, most of the Metroid, Zelda and Mario games are still considered classics, which they wouldnt get if they were average :) not to mention the lesser known titles :) You might not like them, but you cant argue they've not had a distinct impression on gaming history!
They've also provided a lot of things to the gaming market - rumble, the ps controller was an almost direct rip off of the snes one etc

Yeah, Valve may have only made FPS games, but they have a really good development ethos that I can see would work pretty well with any genre they put their minds to. The programmers there definitely know a fair bit about the graphical and engine side of things.

Capcom or Konami...

In the past tho... OCEAN... They ROCKED!!!! What ever happened to them?

Ocean was acquired by Infogrames in 1998 for £100,000,000 and renamed to Infogrames UK.

 I'm shocked no one has said SNK. Metal Slug anyone?

Metal Slug and not much else :p Picking a developer on the merit of one game that's not even in a genre that is considered modern anymore is madness

Problem is we would all have to wait eighteen months for a mere snip of a game to come out.

But I dont like any of those games so I wouldnt chose em. With regards to the controller, they all rip each other off in this business although I prefer to think that they improve on each others designs tbh ;)

Thats fair play, thier is a lot of 'borrowing' I just think its hard to dismiss thier contribution to gaming, even if you personally dont like thier games; the name mario (as well as sonic) is synonymous with consoles!

Currently...

Other than Nintendo, I think most developers are pretty poor nowadays.

From the Past:

Codemasters (back when they were good)
OCEAN and/or US Gold - Unsure if they were developers or just publishers.

EDIT:
Sorry, forgot was in Console thread.

SEGA/NINTENDO/SNK

3D Realms. I loved playing the original duke nukem 3d with my mate with two pc's serialed. that rocked making uber pipe bombs that could destroy most of the map.

Square-enix. Of course if you're not into RPGs you'd be a bit bored :p They're great at what they do but their games catalogue doesn't really have a whole lot of variation.

Yesplzkthxbaigg.

Well, actually, they had Ehrgeiz which was an RPG/Tekken rolled into one (with Cloud, Sephiroth, Tifa and Yuffie I might add)

Chocobo Racing which is.....racing. (Class game, btw).

Other than screwing us Europeans over a bit - SE are, without a doubt, the best.

(Source of grumble = Grandia 3 :( )

Didn't they create the King Of Fighters series and Samurai Showdown games too?
