I am everywhere...
Im just listening to the review of newspaper headline for tommorow (or today's A.M) The daily mail has reported that one of the suspect that shot the Police woman Sharon Beshenivsky fled the uk by dressing as a woman in veil.

Maybe this is your usual dosage of media sensationalism but how do airport staff check women in full veil against their passport image? Again if this is true, then it is a bad thing and shows the flaws at our airport security.

Well, for a passport photo, nothing can obstruct the face, so I presume those who wear veils would have to reveal their face in order to pass through security.

I would also assume that is true but i don't know for sure. If it is the case that veils don't have to be removed for passport control then that is shocking but for obvious reasons i just can't see it being the case.

But if that's the case the suspect should have been spotted?

Not quite true. There was a news story a while back about two blues brothers impersonaters who had their names changed to Jake and Elwood Blues, and were allowed by the passport office/government to have their passport photos taken with them in the black suit/white tie, dark sunglasses and hats.

Iirc, it was done BEFORE the rules changed.

Yeah just googled it again (come on, it was 6mths ago! ;) ), but the passport will stil be valid until 2012'ish, so all the person listed here would have to do is get a fake passport listed before the changeover date and have a veil photo put in it's place. You could imagine a customs officer being too scared to ask someone to remove a veil just in case the media got hold of it and started the old 'OMFG customs official in race hate veil removal scandal'

Back on topic, i thought all the people involved in the shooting had been caught and named, with the verdicts delivered on all but one of them today?

Elrazur u have some issues to do with race i swear. How many friends do you post about race etc blah blah blah

It all ends up the same :o

 How is this even remotely linked to race? Flawed security is not a race, man wearing burkah is not a race...

There was an incident at our local LBA, here's the story

A journalist who was allowed through airport security wearing a veil which left only her eyes on show has sparked an investigation in Yorkshire.

Newspaper reporter Anila Baig said she was allowed onto a BMI flight from Leeds Bradford Airport to Paris without anyone checking her identity.

Home Office guidelines say people going through passport control should have their faces clearly visible.

Ms Baig was asked to remove her veil by airport security in Paris.

Also another incident in Denmark

A reporter from daily newspaper B.T. dressed in a burka was able to pass through at Copenhagen's Kastrup Airport without being asked to reveal her face to security personnel.

Burkas are an item of Muslim clothing worn by women and exposing only the hands and eyes of their wearers. B.T.'s female reporter was required only to pull down the outfit's veil past her nose when passing through the security checkpoint.

The reporter flew from Copenhagen to London Stansted airport, where she was required to fully reveal her face to security personnel there - both on the incoming and return flights.

Police acknowledged that the woman should have been checked more thoroughly, but said the incident will not lead to any procedural changes for airport security.

On what grounds? Have you had the experience or know someone who has?

Every time I wear my veil through security, I'm brought to a private room and checked out by a woman. I must do it more often.

As far as security at airports goes I have nothing to call on apart from my experiences when travelling. I don't even work in an airport :p
However, I have seen veiled women go through passport control and I don't recall them being brought to the side.
