I'd have thought the 2700k is at best almost equal to the 980X, but on multi-threaded stuff and encoding the 980X would be significantly better. Did you sidegrade to mainly game?

Anyway for me, I'm a secret fan of red, so the 8990 whenever that comes around.

Got it partly right - but wanted to upgrade my board at the time. I do miss the beast, but am happy with my 2700K at 4.5Ghz. Don't do so much encoding/photography these days - so all good. Would like a good 3770K though.
