If you had a time machine

not in my life but I would like to go watch the catastrophic meteor that heavily assisted in wiping out the dinosaurs. That would be quite the site.

In reality Bitcoins, 1000's of them.

Saying that something I had a conversation about recently was how unbelievably excited you were as a child on Christmas Eve. So excited and euphoric that I couldn't sleep waiting for Christmas morning. I don't ever feel like that for anything. Would like to again.

I would go back to my daughter's birth so I could spend a whole day watching my ex in agony.

And I thought I had issues.

For me, it would be to go back to a specific day when everything was just right with a girl. Got interrupted (only gonna be a kiss nothing more :p) and lamented after it for far too long. Ah well.

@Efour , good call on the folks. My dad had a heart attack recently and I'm determined to spend more time with him and my mum. Too easy to take for granted all that they have given us. Don't always see eye to eye, but they have been there 10000% and have been the rock to help kick my life off.

Any time between age of 10 and 16 on a family holiday to Tenerife. - it was just good family times all of us twenty years younger doing activities and exploring.

Or the day the Xbox came out and a bunch of us left school early and played loads of Halo! - I don't see many of those guys now and even fewer play games any more.

Those are the times I'd like to go back to, those are the ones I'll always try to remember. These are the days to better.

Ahh but, you can never change the past You only built the time machine to change the past, if the past was how you wanted it to be, you would never have built the time machine ! :p

My position is more David Deutsch/Timeline.

Time is not a place you can go to or come back from.

However, one might be able to travel into a "similar" parallel universe that is either ahead or behind ours....

That would almost certainly involve some kind of paradox though, so I avoided asking that

Like going back millions of years to find the very first cell and stamping on it
There by leaving your dna all over the planet and probably causing a loop where your attempt to destroy all life on earth actually spawned it. :D

Me! Would have to be the night of a beast with 3 backs. ;)

Where are your sources that state time travel into the past could be possible? You can only go forwards in time, not backwards. Forwards is naturally possible by accelerating past a super massive object in space. Or simply being next to a supermassive object or something with great mass

Time dilation is forward moving, not backwards.

Unless you are referring to looking back into the past, which is completely different and the product of light speed travel vs cosmic expansion that is faster than light speed the farther away something gets. You could never travel to those places we are now observing in the distant night sky, for example. And once they are so far away that their light stops being detected, they are gone forever.

I'm just going out, so cannot find you the mathematic version, but to sum it up. http://www.newsweek.com/time-travel-physics-einstein-spacetime-tardis-592908
Whilst only a theory, I'm sure there are more than one of these involving mavity. I think the only draw back is that the distance you can travel backwards is only to the point where you warped space. So time travel backwards is possible but only back to when you first created the machine.

So the answer is still no then. Travelling back in time is not possible :p

So you can interact with the people or can they not see / touch you?

I'd go back to when I was 9 when my fathers parents came over from Iran - the only time they were able to do so, the second day we all went to my mothers parents house where both parents met for the first time...

Only my mother is alive now and suffers from depression from the sudden loss of life of all my grandparents and my father within 2 years.

Yes and no, if someone else had already created this machine before yours, you could use that one and go back to when they invented it. Your still moving back in time, it just has a limitation. This is just the first of many theories on how it could be done and there are others that say you wouldn't encounter that problem, like the link I posted.

So, not an actual time machine as such but more a Quantum Leap machine, where you can go back to anypoint within your own lifetime..

I'd probably not change anything tbh, given I now have offspring and wouldnt want to do anything to change that, despite them being little ******** at times lol..

Whilst I understand the theory behind this (Neil DeGrasse Tyson mentions it in an episode of Cosmos too), the amount of energy required to sustain and run it is more than just immense. And then you must consider that you’d also need another machine in the past to be able to create the same mass to send you back into the future.

So whilst in theory it might be possible, the reality would be that it isn’t possible by any stretch of the imagination unless you can put the mass of a star or black hole into something portable!
