Iiyama X2377HDS

Thanks for the link to the manual PDF FlyingPig. I was just looking at the 'customizing settings' section and there is a setting called 'Black Level' (which can only be changed if you connect via HDMI). Now, it seems that this can have an effect on overall brightness as it may be a backlight setting (i am only guessing here).

This is from the manual-

The available picture settings are described below.
Menu Description
BRIGHTNESS - To adjust the brightness of the screen.
CONTRAST - To adjust the contrast of the screen.
SHARPNESS - To adjust the clearness of the screen.
BLACK LEVEL - You can set the offset level. If you select'HIGH', the screen will be bright and if you select ‘LOW’,
the screen will be dark. (only for HDMI input)
* Offset? As the criteria for video signal, it is the darkest screen the monitor can show.

So maybe for those who want a brighter screen may need to connect via HDMI. My LG IPS235V has been sent today so, hopefully, it will arrive tomorrow and i can test this out if i can find my DVI to HDMI cable.

Edit: i think i should have got PCM2's address and sent it to him to review first. :D

Well I sent this email to LG customer services yesterday

I am intrested in buying the LG PS235V-BN and the LG IPS236V monitor, could you please tell me which is the newer monitor and what the response times are for both monitors. As I find conflicting information on response time for the LG PS235V-BN, your website says 14ms and other websites like ******.com says 5ms. Also your website dose not have any information on the LG IPS236V response time, so could you tell me what it is please.

Could you also tell me how long the warranty is on each monitor please.

This is the reply I got back

Thank you for your email.

In answer to your query. Both monitors were released about the same time and in answer to your other question as it states on our website the monitors have a 14ms time response.

We hope this helps and should you require any further assistance please to not hesitate to contact us again either via email or by calling the call centre on the number below.

Best regards,
LG Electronics UK Helpdesk

So still no idea how long the warranty is :(

I think, and maybe PCM2 can clear this up, that most monitors have a slower than advertised response time (ISO response time?) and this is because they are 'overdriven' by software/firmware in the monitor. This means that this LG panel when being overdriven has a response time of 5ms. All recent 23" e-IPS monitors seem to have these LG 23" e-IPS panels as it looks like LG are the only company that makes them and i have seen other reviews of monitors like the ASUS ML239H which give a good review and show the response time as 14ms ISO/5ms G2G. The Iiyama X2377HDS also has the same panel.

Here is that review of the ASUS monitor and just remember it looks like the same LG panel

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/asus_ml239h.htm

Edit: it looks like my LG IPS235V won't be turning up today as the order tracking says it arrived at the national hub at 11.34am today :(

Also the LG IPS235V has -

Service & Support - 3 years warranty

Service & Support Details - Limited warranty - 3 years ¦ Limited warranty - backlight - 3 years

This is spot on. I actually spoke with an LG PR agent who emailed an LG engineer about it. No offence to anybody but customer service agents generally aren't the best people to ask - they will just repeat what is (incorrectly) stated on the website.

Decided to take a punt on a Iiyama X2377HDS, will see what its like when it should arrive tomorrow. Iiyama seem to be an ok brand, so hopefully it will perform to my expectations ;)

I'm curious to hear your feedback. Should be a very good screen too, but the LG set a new price record :D

One thing I noticed that may be an issue for some people is that the viewing angles on the LG are not that great at all. I had expected this to be better on an IPS screen but it is only slightly better than an LCD screen, I would say. Again, not really an issue for myself, and I can still comfortably watch movies on it from my bed (more of an issue on my Hanns G), but it is something you may want to keep in mind when buying this bargain screen. Anyone else with the same experience?

Yeah, it is known that e-IPS screens don't have the great viewing angles of other types of IPS screens (or at least i found out when i researched this panel).

Still haven't got your new toy yet? :D

No = :(

It arrived at my local parcelforce depot at 22.50 last night so it will be Monday when they deliver it. I now have my HDMI cable plugged in to the back of my graphics card just waiting to be plugged in and i keep looking out of the window every time a car goes past just in case parcelforce decide to deliver it on a saturday. Now wishing i had paid the extra tenner for next day delivery.

Just set up my Iiyama X2377 HDS, only negative thing i can find about it at the moment is the stand doesn't click in properly (user error?) and therefore the screen wobbles a bit if u nudge the desk sometimes. Seems to be a bit of plastic in the stand which is blocking it from 'Clicking in properly'. Apart from the stand though, the monitors picture looks superb! dont think i have got the calibration set up the to its best, but i've fiddled around and found a nice enough setup for now.

WOW, compared to my old Samsung Syncmaster 2032BW the picture is amazing, Blacks are nice, deep and inky, whilst whites are solid, clear and dont look yellow or blue. Colours are vibrant and life like, text is crisp and doesn't require me to move my head close to the monitor anymore.

Viewing angles appear to be quite good from my point of view, but then i've never seen a high end IPS screen. Horizontal viewing angles seem to be great from L & R sides, whilst vertical isn't as good, looking from below is also good, however looking from above the picture starts to turn a fair amount darker. Using DVI Cables currently, yet to test out HDMI picture.

Have yet to try games out for a long period to check if there is any lag or ghosting issues.

Hi,
Do you have any news about this monitor X2377 ? especially when viewing films (no reverse ghosting or something like that) ?
I just ordered an XB2374 (the same with different stand), I'm now waiting for it ;) (not available at the moment).
Thanks !

Just got the X2377 today - using it with my PC at the moment but it was actually bought for use with my 360 and PS3. It's a nice screen, especially at the today only price I paid (£149). Crisp text, decent colour and only minimal banding noticed so far. Can't really get a REALLY deep black without losing too much brightness. Viewing angles not bad. Not noticed any serious lag in the few games I've run. Not tried any movies yet.

Drawbacks? Flimsy, wobbly stand. More serious - quite bad backlight bleed down the sides, particularly about 2/3 up the right hand edge.

Overall though it's a nice screen for the price. Not sure I'll be using it for my primary PC display as my usual PC display is my old OcUK DGM screen which is generally really nice but now becoming unreliable. Might look at the Asus Pro-Art or Dell Ultrasharps for that.

Anyway - if you can get one for under £150 it's a pretty good buy.

Thanks for posting that GeezerButler (are you a Black sabbath fan?). Me and FlyingPig will probably be a little bit happy that you have some issues with the Iiyama monitor as we both opted for the cheaper option with the LG. I am surprised that you find the black levels not to be dark enough (i take it you have gone through all the gamma/back light options on the monitors menu?). The LG, with the same panel as the Iiyama, i find to have very deep blacks compared to the very same OcUK DGM 24" monitor that i also have. I do have a little back light bleed in the bottom right hand corner but have found that if i put a little pressure on the back right hand corner this goes away. When i get time i will have a closer look to see if i can fix it. I can't see any 'banding' on the LG.

Yes, thanks for the review, will be helpful for other people too I'm sure.

Well, as kingy666 (jeez, are you guys all Devil worshippers? :D I prefer the Scandinavian metal myself!) said, it looks like our punt seems to have paid off.

Backlight bleed is acceptable on mine. Stand is not fantastic either but it does the job. I guess it depends what you are used to and what standard you expect from a budget monitor. Happy with the black levels on mine, though I am not a fan of the 2.4 gamma kingy666 seems to prefer.

Bottom line is this is all a bit subjective. GeezerButler may well find the stand of the LG very flimsy too so to really compare these we'd need to put them next to each other I suppose.

That said, it looks like both monitors are very good budget options.

I agree with you about the 2.4 gamma setting FlyingPig as i am now set at 2.0 but tomorrow may be different settings again. :D

Hi all. have just set up an iiyama x2377HDS and it looks great. I had an oldish (4years) LG which was great but as my desk raises the monitor viewing angles were annoying and this has certainly solved that. Been playing BF3 and everything is running nicely and looking great.
Colours are definitely warmer than my previous monitor
