Ikea appreciation.... Can you over do it?

Billy bookcases, Lack tables and Not uplighters ... yep I've got a few things from Ikea ... tend to find the stuff from there a bit better than from the other flat pack vendors ...

Had most of the stuff i do have for ~4 years and had no issues at all with it.

Not as bad as one of my friends at Uni ... I remember going around his place with some friends after he and his girlfriend had just re-done it and exclaiming "Ikea its tidy in here"

Aint finished yet
Shelving and drawer unit...

Don't think I've ever seen those in IKEA. What model name are they? Interested in the shelving...

The chest was ASKEDAL the shelving I think was either NIKLAS or OBSERVATOR it's a job to remember back 6 years.

Waiting for camera batteries to charge too... ;)

Isn't IKEA stuff generally just more expensive and overpriced versions of the crap one gets from MFI?

Yes but because it's Swedish it's somehow exotic.

I'm in the process of furnishing my new gaf at the minute and having been round most of the stores, I was apalled at the quality of the Ikea stuff. It was cheap crap. Calling it flimsy would be an understatement.

Veneered MDF does not make good furniture.

There's one on a well known auction site no 230182264012 :D

If you look back to my Jerker, you'll notice the top shelf is silver.... they stopped doing it in the beech effect about two years ago :(

sorry my fault i already have the jerker desk i was hoping that ikea still did the desk as am hoping to find the shelve that attachs

My parents bed is from Ikea, about 16 years old now! :)
When I finally move into my own flat I will get all the furniture at ikea, its cheap, looks good and it can be delivered quite cheaply.

A-hahahaha! Awesome :D Thats really funny posting.

Cant beat Ikea, love it :p

Edit: is that the advanced open water you got there? I'm doing that in Dec :)

How did you get on with it.
More to the point where did you do it!
My open water I did in Babbacombe, also in winter. :D
Makes you a better diver IMO.
Iv'e done;

Open water
Advanced open water
Rescue diver
O2 administrator
Medic first aid
Advanced Nitrox technical diver (TDI)

Did my 200th dive with my brother in Thailand last Christmas..
Haven't dived since.
must make some plans soon...

I quite like ikea stuff as it's fairly good quality and quite cheap aswell (1.5m desk/table I have was ~£30), if I was going to get flatpack it would be ikea.

And I wasn't the only slave to my nesting instinct. The people I know who used to sit in the bathroom with pornography, now they sit in the bathroom with their IKEA furniture catalogue. ~Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club, Chapter 5

You buy furniture. You tell yourself, this is the last sofa I will ever need in my life. Buy the sofa, then for a couple years you're satisfied that no matter what goes wrong, at least you've got your sofa issue handled. Then the right set of dishes. Then the perfect bed. The drapes. The rug. Then you're trapped in your lovely nest, and the things you used to own, now they own you. ~Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club, Chapter 5

Niklas from memory - they stopped making it a few years ago. I've got two full-height bays of it for TV, stereo and some odds (it's also exactly the right height and size to get my booze cupboard under). Only down side of it is that it's a bit rickety unless you fix it to the wall, even if you use the cross-braces.

I also have:

A double bed
Three lots of Billy bookshelves
Two chairs
A cupboard set
Bathroom cupboard
Coffee table
A couple of mats

I've also bought other stuff from their which has since been discarded.

I also plan to get a wardrobe and chest-of-drawers from their in the next couple of months. If you can get over the pain of making the stuff, it's generally well-built, long-lasting, easy to clean, and functional. It's a bit austere for some, but I like the minimalist look.

I know what you mean Seek.
I have learned (only recently) this is not the way and certainly there is no NEED to keep buying the stuff.
Once I've paid off what I owe to this country I'm going to walk, leaving it all behind, I won't care less.

Buy high quality furnitures from local shop and they will last many times longer than IKEA's and are actually cheaper and looks good in the long run.

Which are still made in china and flat packed. Unless you buy antique furniture, but that's going to cost a hell of a lot more than Ikea. Plus you need to hire a van.
