IKEA Fredrick with monitor and case on same shelf?

On a related note, get some new speakers man :p Those Dell units are over a decade old! :p

Well spotted. Actually, they are Harman Kardon hk695, which are excellent for my low profile use. I hardly play sound through speakers and when I do, I play on a very low volume. 99% of the time, I use my headset.

Worse part is, I had 2 sets of these speakers. Dell sent me 2 sets by mistake. I had this 2nd pair lying around in their original packing for a decade and just pulled them out now after giving my old PC away to my nephew!

I haven't set my desk up completely yet either. I also need to sort out my cable management and put some other hardware back on the desk.

Ah yeah I see it. Didn't think this through did you.

Have you tried to see how it looks on the top shelf, where the router is atm? That looks sturdy to me.

LOL! You're joking now aren't you?

I didn't had to think about anything when the desk costed me 5 quid and it's in excellent condition. Actually, I was planning to put the desk in another room for my old PC but then decided to just squeeze it into my room and put the case on top cos I like a desk a lot.

Sideways, on the top shelf.

That's your only option as far as I can make out.

Unless you can squeeze the monitor onto the tray where the keyboard is, then have the case where the monitor is (sideways).

Excellent out of the box thinking. Yes, do what skully just said.

Except when I want to install or plug something, it's gona be a hassle taking the case out. Same applies if the case on top shelf. Have to unplug everything, bring case down and then mess with it.

I can put it sideways on floor in front of the metal plate under the desk, but that leaves little room for leg maneuver.

I have another idea. What if I turn the whole desk around 180 degrees and then put the case sideways on the main desk? Everything else can stay where it is. There will be less space for keyboard and worknig space if I do this, but I think it should be enough for my use.

It will also take my worry away about the shelf being weak as the case will be on the main desk.

Having your PC up there does look rather odd. Regardless, in my experience the shelves can take a lot of weight.
Here's mine.

That's an all in one printer and an Onkyo AV receiver on the top shelf, which weight quite a few Kg together and the shelf doesn't bow at all.

I have another Fredrik with a load of music gear on it as well. I do love these desks but it's not as good as it's predecessor looks.

EDIT: Tip: Do not remove the support bar at the bottom regardless of how annoying it is, it's seriously dependent on it to stop it from moving side to side. Just something i learned with mine :p

Yeh the bar at bottom also gives the shelves extra support and stops them from buckling.

I might just move the shelf with monitor on it higher up and put the monitor and case on the main desk. It won't look as odd as it does in the picture.

Edit: I think you were referring to the wider bar right at the bottom of desk that is mainly used for cable management, which does stop the desk moving from side to side.

Could you not just hoover your floor once in a while and save all this hassle?

That would have been a practical solution for my old desk where I had case on floor. The dust in my room builds up so fast that even after a week it starts to clog up inside the case, outside the case and in the corner of the room. And my room being small, I am restricted to manoeuvrability and opening the case up every week. Don't have that much time or motivation on hand. But I can't place the case on floor with this desk as pointed out before due to lack of space.

I don't think I can place the monitor and case on the main desk because I don't have enough space for the mouse. And turning the desk 180 degrees and placing the case sideways places the keyboard under the monitor shelf. So I might just leave it as is.

What desk is that mate and where did you get it from I am also looking for a desk ( not so bothered about price but shouldn't really cost too much ) I am currently looking at a metal desk with slide out keyboard and adjustable height but this would suit the dining room better. Also it's wide enough for my peripherals by the looks of it; I think the metal one will only just take my large size mousepad and microsoft sidewinder.

Have you just missed the entire content and title of this thread? lol!!

It's the IKEA FREDRIK
I have the it in both sizes 90 degrees from each other.

I would advise the accessory package as well, it's very handy, especially the cable tidy clip-on thing.
