<.<dirtydog said:Perhaps her British mother didn't realise it was necessary. You certainly can't hold the two year old responsible for not doing it, I don't suppose two year olds are too up on immigration policy![]()
Well nothing would have stopped her if she had done it later on in her life but yes her mother should have had it sorted out. Mind you im not surprised by this, i know a few people who have lived in the UK all their lives but they have no british passport...and they happen to be whites as well. Mind boggling if you ask me, i was under the impression that once your born...your parents get you the british passport or they apply for one. Amleto said:whooooosh

Since when do you need to present your passport or birth certificate when you get a job?Nash said:Americans can hold dual citizenship. Seems quite strange though! I wonder if she ever worked, I imagine this can't be the first time anyone's noticed in 78 years...

Yeah, this woman's white.dirtydog said:Erm spot the difference.
Well yes, I realise there will be SOME jobs where they do thorough checks. But I'm sure for most jobs they don't check your citizenship beyond simply asking you what it is, and she would have said British because in her mind and to all intents and purposes, she is.Amleto said:When you do MoD type stuff.

Sorry but she only has herself to blame for this...
I think it was a couple of years ago Labour brought in a law which made it mandatory to produce ID before commencing work as a defence against the criminal offence of employing illegal immigrants.dirtydog said:Since when do you need to present your passport or birth certificate when you get a job?

Whilst some companies undoubtedly don't check, by doing so they leave themselves open to criminal charges![]()
I was dimly aware that the law might have changed recently but I know that I've never been asked for that info in all the jobs I've had, at least. In other words, the person who said she mustn't have ever worked was a bit silly
