YAY after a few years of a company car i have got a Mk4 gti golf 1999.

Been searching the forums for problems with the gearbox and have found many people having problems, but no on with my problem.....

If i'm driving around (either from cold or warm) normally the box feels nice and notchy (as i think it should ???!? ) if i change gear quick that also is nice and easy...
however as soon as i put my foot down and take the revs up to 5500-6000 and try and change gear at either quickly or normal pace the box just refuses to engage the gear... there is no ginding it's just like trying to shift in to a gear that isn't there, after a second or two i can select the gear...

Am i along the right lines of syncro ?!? trouble is it's in any gear... so 2nd to 3rd
4th to 5th etc....

Any clues ?!?

Thought only the 1.6 8v's had problems with boxes.. I've got a 1999 1.8T but tis fine.

Consider new dog bone bushes.. could be worn, lot of movement under harsh acceleration and it struggling to engage gear due to movement of everything... who knows lol.

It's not such a helpful post, but why would you be taking it to 6K anyway? I guess I'm a boring driver, but I very rarely go above 4.5.. I've no idea what my gearbox feels like at 6K :p

Because that's where most multivalve petrol engines develop peak power?
My MX5 doesn't develop it's full gigantic amount of horses till 6.6k

You won't break anything, the rev limiter's there for a reason :p
