It's been a while since I built a PC.

I need a CPU and motherboard that will handle any game I throw at it. I already have a GTX 570 but it's being severely bottle necked by my Athlon II x2 :o

My budget is about £150 which needs to cover the cost of a CPU and motherboard capable of unlocking the potential my GPU has. I really don't want to go over £150 and would massively appreciate it costing even less!

Thanks!

Personally, I think Trinity is the way to go, the top chip in the line up is an unlocked quad runs at 3.8-4.2Ghz. You can pick a FM2 motherboard to bring in under £150.

Ok you'll be wasting the integrated graphics!!!

Is your current set up DDR3, I forget which processors coincide with which memory at which time? Trinity is DDR3.

No my current setup isn't DDR3 but that's not a problem, I've already factored that i'll need to buy some ram :)

Edit: do you mean the A10-5800k?

Is this the best value for money then?

The latest i3's (Ivy's) are the best in terms of single core performance which is very handy for most games and also has Hyptherthreading to use on applications like video editing software which support it. However the on-board graphics is considerably worse compared to the Trinities.

Please do not factor onboard graphics. I have no need for them as I already have a GTX570.

After doing my own research, I reckon the FX-6300 is probably the best bang for buck. It's only £99 on OCUK this week too.

Can someone clarify this? A10, i3 or FX?

Personally go for an i3. Its better on IPC performance and in the future can easily upgrade to an i5 if you wish. If you utilise more than 4 threads though or 2 cores and wont be upgrading on the same socket get the Piledriver.

If it's only for gaming, intel all the way...

But I'd personally go piledriver... way more bang/buck if you're going to be doing other tasks...

But the i5 upgrade route is a tempting one...
