im applying for the police

Without wanting to offend, as long as you belong to a minority you will get in no trouble!

Seriously though, good luck - hope you achieve your goal.

If you are of ethnic minority or female then you will be fine, if your a white bloke it will be very tough.

p.s. If you get in, you can then march in london :D

Thats sad but so true for up here :o. Had my cousin turned down as they were only recruiting muslims etc... racism i tell theeee.

i was told by a serving officer who was advising me that the force i applied for was actively seeking out minorities and had been told so by recruitment when asking about my application and a couple of his mates who also got turned down.

I tried to join the Police, but they turned me down when the found out I knew my father.

/ducks and runs...

:D

i was just watching 'the world's most shocking police videos' and there is some pretty violent stuff involved. though that was in the usa where everybody has a gun and people drink in their cars, but you need to be careful. i would love to just pull out my police licence and shout "Hands Up, You're Under Arrest!" and if i get any resistence trip them up and floor em, putting on the cuffs.

All very cynical....and often so young!
I applied at 21 and got through months of fitness tests, psycho-dynamic testing, assessed role play...only to be told at the final interview "We like you, but feel you are a bit young!".....Well, why set 21 as the minimum age lmit!?

It is easy to feel that there has never been a worse time to be young, white, male, heterosexual and from a two parent family, etc...

Good luck......now who's being cynical!!!?

thats me failed then, i have 3points but they come off in june

Ignore what he says. Any thing over 6 points is an instant fail. You are perfectly fine with 3 points. Also with other driving offences (nothing uber serious) you are ok. You can even join the force if you have been prosecuted of DUI with either drink or drugs. You just have to wait a minimum of 10 years before applying after that date.

I've been through the application process a couple of times now and just tonight attended an open evening. Last time I failed at the assessment centre, by falling short at 5% away from the target.

Any questions, feel free to assk.

Unlucky mate, did they offer you another role? PCSO etc? Sometimes they do that if theres space and someone is worth keeping 'in house'.

Being young isn't a bar to entry if you've got the right attitude. Friends of mine have got in at 21 and 22. They naturally want a bit of maturity but if you evidence it during the recruitment process you'll be fine.

They'll hardly blink an eye at that. And I wouldn't listen to the rubbish people post here about having to be in a minority. What are 99% of the coppers you see in the street?
And yeah you have to be pretty special to get in at 21 as you need 'life experience. Although there are no formal qualifications to get in, they know what to look out for in all the tests and interviews.

No mate, they gave me feedback, show me my ratings and now I know how to tackle next time.

Day1? Don't understand what you mean.

You have the applicaiton, inside that application you have then 5 compitency questions plus a few others. I got through that no worries.

You then have an assessment centre which lasts for 5 hours and includes:

4 role play, which is 5 minutes ina room prep, bell goes, stand out side another room for 30 secs then into the room.

2 written exams.
A 20 minute verbal questioning in reference to the questions in your application.

A logic test

A maths test

erm one more too but I can't remember that. But that's roughly it. To pass you need to score a total of 65 % I scored 60%

Are there physical tests needed, and what are they? I assume some sort of distance run?

say your a gay Muslim.

So funny! Did you think that up all by your little self?

There are physical tests and medical tests.
I forget the values for the MET but there's a push and pull type test, and sometimes a grip test - more often not.
They use a bleep test and level 5.4 rings a bell for some reason... It's not hard. I would imagine if you found it too hard you wouldn't pass the BMI test on the medical anyway.

Best to check your local force website/phone number - as it's not the same nation-wide.
