I'm considering getting into VR, however I'm unsure if it's too early in terms of adopting the tech. I'll admit, I know very little about it, but it seems to be enduring well.

My system spec is:

  • 6700k or 5930k - I already own both, so can choose which suits VR best (maybe there's no difference?).
  • 1080ti
  • W10
  • 950 Pro M2

I game in a small office (at home) and I have no interest in gaming standing up, so I would be looking for a system and associated games that involve sitting down.

Budget is £1k

What would you guys recommend? I'm happy to do my own research, just looking to be pointed in the right direction to get the ball rolling.

Can't go wrong with either the vive nor the rift. Both give some surreal and awesome experiences. I recommend the lab which is free and Arizona sunshine which is awesome.

Just recently purchased a Rift, great bit of kit. Like you, I game in my home office which is small but just about has enough room to stand in. Go for it.

Rift seems better suited for smaller environments from what my mates have said. I'm not sure about the Vive, but know that the Rift supports upgrades for the sensors (i.e. you can add more of them if tracking isn't great).

I'm in a similar boat, however, and would like to know the opinions of others

Rift is fine in small spaces. My 1080 Ti rips though the graphics and you can crank up the details and supersampling

It's not better suited for small spaces. Just that the vive used to be better for room scale. Now they are about the same. No need for upgrades on the vive

Same bundle that I purchased. It will set you up!

Games, I like Project Cars, I mean in VR it is brilliant. I also like Lone Echo, that it just top class.

Buy it, before it goes up in price.

I had PSVR and sold soon after, It was wow for a day or 2 then faded. Jumped back in with a rift due to the offer and I am so glad I did. At £399 in the UK get it now. For me Superhot and The Climb have made the cost of the rift worthwhile. Luckies Tale and Robo Recall that is free with it are cracking also.

Have you even tried VR yet?
If not you're taking a big punt on an unknown.
Once you've got it you'll soon be doing the standing up dance soon enough :) Interacting with the environment in a realistic way is where VR shines.
