I'm curious.....

Would you spend all that money on a drab looking tractor, of course you wouldn’t. Bright and cheerful it has to be.

This. I think manufacturers tend to have set colours so they become part of the brand and can be easily identified, e.g. John Deere = green, Ford = blue, Massey Ferguson = red etc.

It would seem that around here John Deere (if they are the green ones) have a monopoly, maybe I should report it to the monopolies commission.

Good point, can't see many farmers being prepared to pay for their tractors to be painted in metallic gold :p:D

its a pitty the oil rich countries generally dont produce crops or we might see some chrome/gold plated tractors..

now that would be ironic

It's a conspiracy.

high visibility? :o

Pr more likely it's the colour our reptilian overlords find most appealing -_-

I was more hinting at the notion that it's just their brand colour over anything else :p

If it was for high visibility then forklifts etc would all be yellow which they are not! Ours at work is dark orange but it is of the Swiss variety!

Noooooo...don't do that, I work for Caterpillar UK, transmission division, and some of our gearboxes go into JD equipment.

It's not a monopoly just because the most of the farmers choose to use John Deere tractors....

As has already been stated tractor brands use set colour schemes as a form of advertising.

This is so people going past a field where one is working can tell at a distance what brand of tractor it is, much further away than they can see name painted on it.

If they see a tractor or implement they particularly like the look of then they already know the brand to buy one.

It is usually the people who work on farms/ranches or live in the rural areas that get to know the colour schemes and since they are the ones buying the tractors it makes for a good form of advertising.

A few "non-green" tractors, Yarrr!
