Ive recently built my first PC based around the i5 2500k. Started off just to see if I could do it with no intention of gaming in mind. Then I started reading about graphics cards and now I'm fixated on getting a good gaming rig together! Already purchased 4 different cards.....:s

Started with the Sapphire HD 6770. Good card but not quite as good as I was hoping - SOLD!

Then purchased the Palit GTX 460. Again a good card but found myself wanting more after only a few days! SOLD!

Then purchased the HD6850. Again a good card but on par with the gtx 460 really so once again, SOLD!

Ive now got a XFX HD6950 with the dual fan on the way. Picked it up for what seemed like a good price new, £150. This is the top of my budget so hopefully this will keep me quiet for a while!

So now the PC is complete:

i5 2500k Overclocked to 4.5Ghz
Cooler Master Hyper 212 +
AsRock Z68 extreme MB
8GB G Skill Ripjaws 1600
Prowler v2 case (Cheap but seems very well built)
OCZ ModXtreme Pro PSU 600W (Enough for now)
XFX HD6950

Anyone else running a similar setup? Just ordered me a copy of Crysis to test it all out :D

So basically without your lack of research into the matter, you have probably wasted a fair bit of cash.

560ti here. Don't need more than that currently. May upgrade next year though to get a bit more vram

To be fair nope I've done quite well. Ive managed to pick the cards up at really good prices and sold them on for a profit. like the GTX 460 was only £65.

Lesson learnt and Im gonna stick with it now though

I know I cant help it :s But im all done now, although a SSD will be on the way when the prices come down a tad!

A slippery slope but i don't blame you, if i had the money to do so i would aswell. Been very tempted.

First it's an SSD, then 2 SSD's (RAID0), Then it's 6950 Xfire. Haha!

Ill stop putting idea's in your head now :)

PCs are like a very expensive MMO. The components are the gear. Your money is what you grind to make it all happen.

To be fair its a lot of trial and error to begin with when you start out with good spec self built pc's. Even forums are not much use until you can see the worth of them when you start out and get advice and resources you need to help you make decisions. The op obviously made a few buying errors and did not research as he should have done but he's getting there now.

Any new builder/pc gamer enthusiast is a welcome addition because keeping our numbers up keeps our consumption of hardware on an even keel and keeps the industry interested in developing the products we all love.

2x GTX 560ti here.

Dont need anymore than that currently :D

Though I've been even more hooked than the OP since my Xfire 3850s, and been through loads of Xfire / SLI setups.

PLEASE stop spreading lies like this.

 Name a single game that wont run on a 560ti???

This year I've had a:

GT210 (whilst I saved for a better card)
5770
GTX460
GTX460 SLI
6870

And nothing at the moment as I'm looking for a card I won't upgrade for at least a year! :p
