"I'm not going to mod it"

Buy the suspension and brakes. Forget the bolt-on carbon tat (****ing pointless except for willy waving tbh) and get a blower on it.

Best of all worlds. It will keep the original engine's characteristics and just make it 'more'...

Helmets are illegal for road use, and hundreds (if not thousands) of Road Rally cars are caged with helmets being expressly forbidden when competing in them.

Rally cars also run with multipoint harnesses so the amount of movement of the occupant is still limited in the event of an accident. The big problem with a cage comes when staying with the standard inertia reel seat belts where it is possible to headbutt the cage.

Yes the majority do, but not all. If I was fitting a cage, personally I'd go with buckets and harnesses - but some people say that even that combo is no good without a helmet, which is what I was disagreeing with.

personally for the money you could spend on that engine

you could do bucket seats, brakes, coilovers, sort the paint etc..

lots and lots of other changes. seems a shame to spend so much on one thing, when what you've got already does the job. Your going to compromise reliability and make it a bitch to drive at normal speeds

personally id go all out turning the 'teg into a track weapon and doing lots of small mods

or save up and buy an S2000

For th ecost of the engine plus management plus the increased cost in maintaining the thing I'd say it's not worth it.

Stick that cash into some 4 pots, coilovers, seats etc :)

How do you keep then enthusiam in the Bristol area? The roads just suck.

My stock SiR has more than enough power for the roads around here, and i rarely get enough heat into the wilwoods to stop them squeaking

My GT28RS has been here nearly 2 years unfitted aswell

What can I say, I'm just a serial modder :(

Besides, there are some cracking roads if you look hard enough, Cheddar gorge is one of my faves

I think Bristol's roads are awesome.

Dual carriageway followed by a roundabout and then back onto more dual carriageways... I still remember the convoy to RR4

The main road leading from the M60 through to Macclesfield around here is dual carriageway-roundabout-dual carriage way-roundabout. First time I went to paradigm's house, I had a great time driving back home.

Yeah the ring-road can be great when it's not busy, I'm stunned that it is still scamera free too.

Right, been doing some potatochopping. Here is the car slammed, carbon bonnet, and (probably the most controversial part) a carbon bootlid running bare-arsed :D

I also badly chopped a cage in :o

Car is a bit too low now though (dear god, don't let penski hear me say that :D) and you defo need to keep the spoiler :)

Like the cage though

There's a few interesting roads, as you said the ring road is pretty good between my house and Ben's house, I can make myself feel sick in the Elise driving that route :p
Pretty close to there are some better roads though, the ones that lead to Castle Combe, if you go around 7-8ish on an evening it's quiet and you can have some proper fun!
