"I'm not going to mod it"

Found the sellers post on itr-dc2.com ;)

The first question is why spend 5k on a rebuild then go for a k20 conversion? Sounds like he was disappointed with the outcome of the mods to me...

And be 250bhp claims without even a dyno to back it up...

Not entirely convinced, it has to be said.

That'd tell me to get the other bits and ignore the engine for now.

And Fox..somehow I don't think that he would. :p

What would drivability be like with that engine? Would the low down power suffer for the big BHP figures? The teg is such a drivers car I'd be scared of ruining that.

What about other cheaper mods which will improve the fun factor, maybe a new ECU to drop the changeover point. If merlins old Teg is anything to go by that would be my chosen mod

The spec:

B18c
LSD BOX
Polished head
2 Skims to head (raise compression)
1 Skim to block (raise compression)
Skunk 2 stage 3 cams
KMS retainers
KMS valves (Valves Re-adjusted to work with high spec cams)
KMS springs
Top line Oil pump
Top line Water pump
OEM Head bolts
OEM headgasket
All other gaskets OEM replaced
Skunk 2 pro series inlet manifold
Spoon pistons 11.6.1
Tuning Worx clutch (capable for 350BHP)
Aftermarket fuel rail
After market fuel regulator

What about the rest of the bits, remapped or aftermarket ECU, decent exhaust manifold, light flywheel etc? BTW, "polishing" a head achieves nothing apart from making it shiny, it's the shape of the ports, valve seats and combustion chamber where gains can be made.

Personally I think you'll regret blowing the money on that engine, because it always costs more than you'd expect to get a really sorted engine properly set up, and if you don't spend the extra money it will be a pig.

The changeover on the SiR is already lower than the Type-R, mine changes over at 4800.

Yep, I already stated I would be needing the ECU etc a few posts up. I fully appreciate the cost of the engine itself is just the beginning.

In all honesty the more I think about it the more I'm leaning away from the engine idea, as people have said there do seem to be some question marks about that particular engine, and the potential reliability issues scare me.

I'm going to stick to my original plan ;)

Oh and sod all that.

Just buy an S2000, 240+ hp 9,200rpm out the box and stupidly reliable.
Holds its value well, rear drive too ;)

£2800 for an extra 50BHP*?

Drexel, you've had some awesome cars in the past and I haven't really followed the progress on the current teg because tbh, I see it as wholly uninteresting. I appreciate this is a bit of a harsh comment just like most people will say my Rover is crap but it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it and I imagine it's the same for you with that car.

Have you, perhaps, considered DIY supercharger route? Gotta be doable for this money??
300BHP in that motor would be something to seriously smile about as you clearly love the car and will inevitably do the chassis/brake upgrades anyway :) I'm guessing it aint your daily driver so you could take your time over it, perfect it, etc.

*No graph either? ;/

A cage is overkill for road use, besides if you go for an exposed cage you should always wear a helmet.

Helmets are illegal for road use, and hundreds (if not thousands) of Road Rally cars are caged with helmets being expressly forbidden when competing in them.

TBH I was looking at some in the trader yesterday........

Don't think I'd get a particularly good example for the money I would have though.

Keep the money.

I can't do that, I'm not that sensible :(
