Okay a new question, a child runs at your a bubble-making gun - it doesn't seem like a threat on the surface but if the detergent laden bubbles get in your eyes you will be blind for at least 30 seconds, at which point you are at the mercy of him AND his friends...

What do you do?

Just hope it isn't some whining 12 year old american kid with the 'awp whore' comments ;)

But duh, anyone running at you with the intent to kill and anybodies survival insticts would make them react to the threat. And if it didn't I am sure common sense would prevail... maybe.

Good question, in this state(alcomahol) im not sure, for all i know it could be a gun, therefore i would feel threatening = shoot. But then its a kid playing with a bubble machine = harmless.

Tell him to stop? Cover your eyes to stop the bubbles? Run away? Challenge him to Queensbury rules? Unload hot molten death on him?

Give a bit more of a clue here, are these particularly vicious children following our bubblegun toting troublemaker or just ordinary run of the mill kids?

shoot him in the knee caps, just in case - soap in the eyes can really sting.

I suggest you find a way that you are happy with to answer this question as it’s not uncommon in service interviews in one form or another. You may be asked ”How do you feel about killing, do you think you could do it?” in a very blunt fashion in order to try and shake you up. The best answer I could come up with, which is one I’m quite happy with is;

”If, someone were to pose a real perceived threat to my life or those of my men or who or what we have been ordered to protect, then I see no other solution to eliminate that threat with appropriate force and if it came to it, and that appropriate force was lethal, yes I could kill.”

But with regards to a child, depending massively on the situation at hand obviously someone would attempt a non lethal hit if at all possible and they thought it would result in a cease and desist and a lethal one if said child's gun was in fact aimed. In a combat situation obviously things are very fast, very tense and “appropriate force” is a very qualitative thing.

Quite frankly your friends are self-righteous, idealistic and naive morons. :o

can imagine a little iraqi boy running at you with a gun shouting Jihad! he would deserve nothing less than a silver bullet in his head.

I agree with you (original poster), if someone/anyone is going to kill you, and you have to option to prevent this from happening, it should be done. However, if I was skilled with a gun I would aim to incapacitate the person, not kill them, thus saving both our lives. :p

You express the correct mind-set if you intend to join the armed forces. You don't strike first but if you are being attacked you retaliate with the minimum force necessary, it doesn't matter who the attacker is. What if that boy was a bomber and attempting to kill several people? The armed forces are a defence mechanism, you are expected to defend yourself and your country. I wouldn't begrudge your friends for not understanding/holding the same opinion though. Clearly a career in the armed forces is suited to some people over other's.

Anyway. Get some drink more beer and :) Its xmas you numpty! :D :D

Hey guys

Btw before i start, i am completely hammered right now, not eaten since dinner time and had too many pints and double vodka + cokes :o

Anyways here i go.

Today i had a massive arguement with work friends. I am hopefully going to join the RAF as a communication and information systems specialst (or cis om to people who know wtf im talking about)

People were asking me about what i will be doing etc and then somebody mentioned what if i had to kill somebody. It came onto the discussion of what if i had to kill a little boy who was walking/running towards me with there gun pointed at me. I firmly said i would shoot and kill them the moment i saw them threatening me.

Well this caused a huge arguement, people were saying what if it was only a small child who didnt know better, i was saying i don't care, if its me or him then he is the one who will get killed. Even if i end up with theropy for a few months he will be the one who gets killed. It made a few people mad :o

I spoke to my parents about it and they agree with me, if its a life or death situation they said they would rather him go home in a box than me, and i agree.

Im not saying that i want to go out and kill everyone i see, i don't want to kill anybody, but if it came to this situation it would be me who shoots to kill. Not to injure, but to kill.

Do you guys agree with me? Or do you agree with my friends?

P.s Don't make this into an agrument i just wonder peoples opinions
Pps. Merry christmas to all, hope you have a great xmas and new year :)

Unfortuatley you're going to asked stupid questions like that especially after people have had few pints.

Trust me, whatever answer you give would've caused an arguement. If you had said no then the reaction would've been along the lines of "well you shouldn't be joining up then"

I tried both answers to try and aviod arguements, but it didn't work :p

I've had a similar argument with my flatmates before about shooting to kill or shooting to injure. But yes i agree with you Andr3w and it sounds like from what your works mates say, if they were ever in that situation they'd be dead :p

Theres no such thing as shooting to injure. Even being shot in the arms or legs can be fatal. Don't shoot someone unless you're prepared to kill them :p

I'd kill the kid.

Then I'd kill his family. Then I'd hunt down his friends and kill them. And their families. Then the other kids in his school, and the other kids in his town. And their families.

And then NO-ONE would fear me. NO-ONE at all. MWAHAHAHAHAHA.
