I wouldn't hesitate for a second to go for the head shot, like whats already been said its me or them, and it ain't gonna be me! Always go for the single shot as well you never know how many more of the little scallies are round the corner! ;)
 
to be honest, its nearly impossible to say without it actually happening...

in reality, if someone came running at you with a gun, regardless of age, race, or colour of socks, if you have a gun, and you feel threatened, chances are you may well end up raising it to defend you, if they go to shoot, no one would say they were wrong if they were in their shoes. Hindsight however, is a beautiful thing for those who would begrudge you defending yourself. would they prefer you dead?
 
I'd shoot him, all his friends and anyone within 400 metres of him.
That'll show him for messing with me.

As someone planning on joining the millitary myself, I would do the same. The chances of it happening are minute, but in a hostile situation always neutralize threats.

It goes like this:

If something is a threat, neutralize it. Obey your superior officers. Help your friends.

Personally i agree with you 99% the 1% i disagree with is weather or not i'd shoot to kill imediatley. If i saw him walking towards me and slowley raising a gun, i'd try and aim for his shoulder, so he drops it and falls down, either that or the knee, and if i miss and kill him then, it saves me the second bullet which i would use if he persistsed in getting back up and trying again.

Overall your not in the wrong. Whats to stop a small child running with at you with a knife and you just letting him stab you pureley because his a small child. Nonsense, ignore your friends, and have a good christmas :p
 
You shoot him. ASAP. If he dies it is tragic but at least you're alive.
Whilst you're trying to injure him without killing him he is trying to kill you and he might well succeed.
 
In this environment of asymmetric warfare the question you've stated is a very real dilemma. Is the kid running towards you with the gun because he wants to shoot you, or has he found it and he's running towards you to hand it in as he's afraid? Is it loaded? And if you can't tell whether or not it's loaded will you get charged with murder if it isn't and you do shoot him?

All are questions that will no doubt run through the minds of servicemen engaged on counter insurgency operations around the world, and something you should definitely bear in mind if you plan on joining the forces.

With you going through your officer training, what would you do in this situation, honestly?
 
Your moronic friends obviously never watch world events where 5 year olds are given guns as their best friend.
Your mates would be dead and you wouldn't.

I would shoot the child, I hold my life more important than somebody I did not know. I am only 20, not exactly some old 60 plus guy. If I was old, I'd happily die for the child to go away from that situation.

It would all depend on the rules of engagement and the situation at hand. If I percieved him to be a threat to myself or others, obviously I'd have no qualms about neutralising him in accordance with the rules laid down by my superiors. You'd just have to play each situation to it's merits and hope you made the right decision.
 
I'd explain to him that he was from an economically challenged country whereby the money that would otherwise have provided him an education had been spent on the AK47 in his hand, this would break his spirit and eliminate his desire to kill
