I'm shaking as I write this....

I have quite a bit of experience with bikes and drive a car day to day and I kind of resent that statement.

While I appreciate there are complete tools behind the wheels of cars there is plenty of bikers who don't act with regards to safety as well..

Don't resent it, I agree totally and I drive a car most days. You get idiots on every conceivable form of transport, and there are certainly some bikers that don't do themselves (or the rest of the biking community) any favours at all. However, the proportion of car drivers that are incapable of driving to a reasonable standard seems far higher to me. Not just the ones that blunder along without looking, but the people that don't have the confidence/ability to make reasonable progress and hold up numerous other vehicles.

In this case it seems a lad in a Fiesta has pulled straight into the path of the bike, a classic SMIDSY I suspect.

Sad story :(

I have had 3 off's, one due to a blind BMW driver who was on the phone and shunted me up the rear. Luckily that was a nudge that left me with a dodgy back for 6 months.

The other 2 were my fault for being a prat and a much more serious.

Hope Uri get's better. I would politely ask for the police to hand him your details and that you wish he get's in contact. Nothing more nice than having someone friendly to talk to through something like that.

Thanks for the reply, was nervous it was going to collapse into zomg car driver in biker forums :P I don't frequent these parts all too much.

I expect your probably right about the confidence thing, its misconceived as a right to be able to drive and standards reflect that.

I do still believe however that the perception of car drivers is lower not only due to numbers but the effects of it. A biker paying little attention is really only risking himself and so from a car drivers point of view he is of little threat. On the other hand a car driver bumbling along in their own little world is a much bigger danger.

A cyclist is common to be found as just an annoyance for the same reasons. Very little threat to me but they cause me to change direction occassionaly. :P
