So, it's been about 3-4 years since I had my gaming PC. Back then a low-mid range card was a 7970 or a 780 ? high end was a 970 or 280x ? I can't really remember. But now I'm back and im currently running a 970, which now seems to be a low-mid card lol.

So my question is, what's considered a low to mid and a mid to high, and high end ? I really need to get back on track lol

Iv looked at the score boards on benchmarking, but I'm seeing old titans still keeping up with the new tech, and 780s with the new amds etc, so it's a little confusing as to what's what.

What is your budget, because "mid range" for Nvidia are at £500 range these days, making the Vega 56/64 a bargain.

I'm not currently looking, just wanting to get up to speed with today's GPUs. And the last 4 years, that's what I meant, apologise if it came across different

RX580/RX590/GTX1660/GTX1660TI is mainstream. GTX1050TI/RX570 is more lower mainstream.

RTX2060 is more an enthusiast class card than mainstream, even though it is positioned as mid-end IMHO.

I am only going by pricing and what JPR and Mercury Research have said on the matter.

Thank you for a genuine reply and not a link to Google, appreciate it :)

What’s wrong with a link? Are you too lazy to research yourself?

It’s hardly a taxing job searching for what current gpus are...

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gpus,4380.html

There you go all you need if you can read :p

As it happens, I'm more than capable of doing some research, but what's wrong with having a conversation on the forums, isn't that what they are here for ? :)

Ps, thanks for link, dunno what I would do without you :p

A couple of guides which may help to put things in perspective. The first one needs you to scroll down a little. FWIW, I would have said the 7970 was more of a mid to upper mid range card around three to four years back (I had one too, great card :)).

1080p tier: RX 570/80/90, GTX 1060/1660

1440p tier: Vega 56/64, GTX 1660ti, RTX 2060/70

4K tier: Radeon VII, RTX 2080

Baller tier: RTX 2080ti, RTX Titan

edit: The upcoming Navi GPUs later this year will seek to replace the RX & Vega cards, but not the VII.

Just worth bearing in mind a GTX970 is somewhere in between a 1050Ti and 1060 3GB, or a RX570 4GB, so for a noticeable upgrade you need to look at at least a GTX 1660 or RX590.

http://www.logicalincrements.com/articles/graphicscardcomparison
is another reasonably useful site for seeing how different generations of cards stack up

So my gtx970 isn't as bad as i think then, that's a bonus, i only play at 1080p anyway , everything iv played so far on it is maxed out and gets plenty fps, thanks for the link :)
