I promised myself that I wouldn't, but in the end I it did anyway...

Sold my GTX580 and purchased a GTX680.

Good stuff:

  • It runs at 99% utilization on my i7 920 @ 3.6Ghz.
  • BF3 now running smoothly ~ultra settings @ 1440p.
  • Its noticeably quieter.
  • Definitely cooler too.
  • Haribo was lush
  • Zotac branded 680 is fairly good with 5 year warranty and Assassin's Creed 3-Game pack included.

Bad stuff:

  • Did I really just spend all that money?
  • I'm such a geek :(
  • Just my luck there'll probably be a price drop next week
  • I'm to scared to overclock it atm
  • I actually got more pleasure from the Haribo than installing the card

Yeah I know, pointless thread is pointless. So I suppose I should ask a question...

I've never really been into GPU overclocking so I'm a little unsure... What is the best OC tool for the 680? And what is a safe frequency for day-to-day gaming, but with a decent performance boost (i.e. more than 5fps)?

Yeah i wouldn't worry too much, although i would have got the 4GB just to be safe (Depends on upcoming games). The games will push harder now that the 7970/680 are out...

Your just suffering buyers remorse, you'll feel fine after a few days or a week, I get it all the time, you've done it now so you might as well enjoy the product, hell, you now have the fasted single gpu card on the market, no point being gloomy!

Just enjoy it and don't be so hard on your self :)

AC:3 as in the Connor, out soon one? pretty nifty if so.

Speaking of Connors, just think if Skynet takes over today, your GPU will bump you up the list of systems to get hijacked by a miffed off supercomputer.

its always a lot of money to go one gen up. i felt the same buying my first SSD. WHY DID I DO THAT! but now i love it now the money flow has grown again lol

lol. good job! I bought 2 of them to run on my rig (similar spec to yours) Love it!

Nice! And your 920 doesn't bottleneck them in SLI?

Edit: Never mind, I just spotted your thread on the subject.
