Noticed some 1080p content (films and shows) on BBC HD channels.

4K makes little sense even if there was 4K broadcasts. You have to sit too close to notice the extra detail.

Freeview HD is 1080i/p, Sky are in the process of releasing a 4K Sky+ HD box.

Doesn't matter if it's pointless. If you have the means it doesn't make sense to buy an inferior 1080p TV. At the very least the TV might have 4K upscaling that will clean up 1080p broadcasts.
