I got speakers. I could not have fit the box into my old car for sure!

Kef Q300

They are more detailed and spacious sounding than my old speakers (Tannoy V4) while not as bassy, they do kick some decent bass where required. I demoed them against a pair of £725 Dali Ikons and realised that good standmount speakers like these are better for music than floorstanders because of the higher quality details. Saved some space too in the process too

I reckon 10% dome-poking protection, 90% 'style' (all the Uni-Q drivers in the Kef range have this) :p

First time I've seen that colour wingman, nice ;)

Also nice speakers mrk shame you don't know much about them ;)

I take it they're on stands?

The stuff keeps coming:

Dew shield, a light polution filter and camera T-Ring.

When you're up and running it'd be really interesting if you did a bit of a build log so people can see all the bit you need and how they work, dad's thinking of getting a similar scope but I don't think he quite knows all the bit he needs.

That's going to be a hell of a tool!

I highly recommend the stargazerslounge forum to anyone that needs more info on telescopes, they're a nice bunch over there and always willing to offer advice to people in need.

Came this morning:

Will be shared by a few of us. Quite a beast (appetite and weight). Just put in the hopper and it feeds itself. Already eaten its way through enough to fill five large garden bags with chippings.

lol what's that little construction over the speaker dome? Looks suspiciously like a guard to stop poking the dome in.

It's a funky looking tweeter - Kef put them in the centre of the mid/bass driver. On a normal speaker it's just a just a dust cap.

Not sure I follow  - But yes, they are on stands.

Edit* Ah yes, it seems the that on these the grille serves a double purpose, protection or style and what they call a "crown wave guide" to smooth out high frequencies supposedly. I don't understand it all but I just now it sounds great :p

The reason it's in the middle of the woofer cone is because of the uni-q 'point source' design, means there's no need to sit in the "sweet spot" in front of them as per normal speakers where the tweeter is above or below the driver cone. You can sit anywhere and still get the best out of the sound. High end frequencies have a bit more detail too.
