How do you find this? I've always avoided fryers due to smell and greasy chips.
It's pretty good for chips, and stuff int he top tray cooks very well too*
pros:
-easy to use
-gets hot quickly
-cooks with very little oil
-easy to clean
-consistant results
-tastes great (okay, they don't taste like true deep fried chips, but what they do taste like is very good). I make fresh chips with rooster or marris piper potatos. skins left on, ofcourse. cut them, wash them, dry them, chuck them in. With a minute or so left on the timer I add some salt and let the paddle mix it in. They certianly look the part and they're soft inside, crisp on the outside and they taste fresh and potatoey.
-compact on the bench
-doesnt smell greasy / oily at all -only positive / nice smells come out of it.
cons:
-*it's not exactly '2-in1' cooking - you cook the chips or veg or whatever in the bottom pan which is paddle assisted, and when you put the top tray in to cook your meat the paddle is disabled and whatever is in the bottom pan stops cooking and just keeps warm. my first meal was chicken breast and chips and I assumed is was a full cook time of 35 mins - 10 mins of just chips, then 25 mins for the chicken - it should have been more like 60 mins. I think the top tray is only really meant to be used for things that take less than 10 mins.
-it's not exactly quiet
-the pans, trays and handles don't feel that good - when you get it out the box it doesn't immediatly feel like £250 worth of gear. That being said there's nothing actually
wrong with them - I just expected them to be less flimsy feeling.
I bought mine from ideal world on the never-never (full price £200, I'm paying 4 installments of £50) which is my preference for things like this as if I'm looking for something I'll see if they sell it as it's pretty painless to buy and their returns policy is very good if you don't like what you've bought. it was cheaper than most other places too by about £50.
I tend not to buy on finance but their interest free 2, 3, or 4 payments is a no brainer if it's a bit of a gift to yourself.
