I ordered a Wii U Premium with Mario Kart 8 for £212 after a drunken online shopping spree. I came to my senses a little late and tried to cancel it 24 hours later, but couldn't. It arrived and I thought I'd open it up to have a look as I was suspicious because the tracking stated that it came from Germany plus had German writing all over the box. Ends up that Amazon UK sent me a German Wii U with 2 pin mains plug on the console and gamepad charger. I phoned them up and spoke to a supervisor, managed to get £45 refunded. The listing on Amazon UK has since been pulled. But a nice little bargain there.

I had a quick go at Mario Kart 8 and it's a keeper!

I'm having a couple of people over tomorrow night so thought I'd try and get Smash Bros and some controllers, can't have a Wii U and not own Smash Bros, so they say. The wireless gamepads are literally sold out everywhere, as are the gamecube Wii U adaptor block. Bad timing I guess as after Christmas all the stock has been raped and pillaged. Amazon Prime couldn't save me this time.

But managed to find this lot, paid over the odds for them but ah well..

The controllers look like they should have V-Tech printed on them tbh.. but Smash Bros is amazing :D

They are both great games. I'm finding the controllers to be comfortable but as a first time player of Smash Bros and the controllers, it's taking a bit of time to adjust.

I know! I'm still stunned at this crazy choice. I must have had too much to drink over the festive period.. or I was abducted by aliens and was commanded to make these choices by the mothership. There's no other explanation.

To be fair, I can see how the WiiU sells purely because of those two games. It all definitely feels like the good old days of console gaming. Last I read Nintendo seem to be doing very well.
 
Great post about the wii u. I'm thinking of picking one up tomorrow or Saturday. Got a ps4, but miss the Nintendo exclusives. Looks like a nice bit of kit. :)
 
Had my Wii U since the end of May and only have 3 games for it. Pikmin 3, which I haven't touched, Wii Sports Club, which I've only had a few hours on. But Mario Kart 8 has has me up until 2AM on some nights - It's just so addictive!
 
Well, the mrs finally decided what she wanted for her birthday, so I popped out to get what I consider the most expensive toast/kettle combo ever..

LOL, I am laughing at myself one this one.. £350 for the pair, and despite some nice LED's and cool features, essentially they boil water and toast bread, just like your regular kettle/toaster!

I thought my suggestion of £85 for the Hotpoint kettle/toaster that are both Which best buys was bad enough, but in this case, the Mrs has always wanted these to match her mixer.. so I'm justifying these under the Happy Wife, Happy life category..

I like that you can select the temperature on that kettle. Particularly useful when you don't want boiling water for coffee / hot chocolate etc.
 
Does £350 get you a more reliable Kettle? Modern ones seem to have a nasty habit of stopping working just outside warranty nowadays, irrespective of it being a nice brand at £50 or a £7 Tesco's special.
