Well, the mrs finally decided what she wanted for her birthday, so I popped out to get what I consider the most expensive toast/kettle combo ever..

LOL, I am laughing at myself one this one.. £350 for the pair, and despite some nice LED's and cool features, essentially they boil water and toast bread, just like your regular kettle/toaster!

I thought my suggestion of £85 for the Hotpoint kettle/toaster that are both Which best buys was bad enough, but in this case, the Mrs has always wanted these to match her mixer.. so I'm justifying these under the Happy Wife, Happy life category..

But they look cool, and hopefully last forever, kitchenaid stuff looks like it lasts forever.

Bloody hell!

For 350 quid you could pay to hire a 'Breakfast Apprentice' for over a year to come to your house and spend 20 minutes making you breakfast every morning :D

I would love to poke fun and laugh at such extreme spending on menial kitchen appliances but to be honest I am quite envious! *Stares at his boring Morphy Richards appliances in disgust*

Does your missus have a Kitchenaid Artisan to go with those or is that next on her list?

My £20 kettle lasted 10 years before it broke. These are simple enough appliances that should last "forever" anyway.

But these Kitchen Aid ones do look cool, still gulp at the £350 price tag though. You really are paying for the brand name for these.

...snip...

What's the toaster like? I'm looking for a decent one... even £80 ones seem to not be up to the job.

I like it when they toast the bread evenly... along with quite quickly on the outside but leaving them soft/fresh in the middle... like the rolling toasters you get in most hotels for breakfast.

Most of the ones I've tried aren't very good at getting it even... and leave the middle of the bread dried out.

I think it might help if you have the hot temperature before putting the bread in, maybe...

It would be a bit silly on the electric bill to get one of those commercial roller toasters for using once in a while.

And thus, Britains most notorious serial killer, aka The Toast Murderer was born. He was known to stalk the streets late at night in search of the perfect slice of toast, butter knife in hand.
