Love the judgy attitude by people who don't have a clue.

America is a hell of a lot bigger than the UK and the police force can't even hope to cover the kind landmass effectively.

Imagine someone breaking into your home, possibly armed with a gun, and the police are an hour+ away.

I imagine an assault rifle would scare the **** out of someone more than a handgun.

If that's left lying around in the open, with quick enough access to grab it if someone breaks in, then that's nuts.

That should NEVER be fired in a built up area, or left unsecured.

*edit* Doesn't mean I'm not jealous :)

Imagine a country where it isn't unheard of where a child gets hold of a loaded weapon and kills another child.

Unfortunately you don't need much of imagination for that sadly. . Gun laws in the US are nuts, utterly nuts.
What does that have to do with a guy buying an assault rifle to use at the range and for home defense?

He hasn't showed how he stores it so not sure why people are bothered?

Also FWIW you can get similar guns in the UK legally with a licence. That is a .22 rifle you can buy in the UK today for around £1000

If the guy didn't have a gun for use at the range or "home defence" then that child wouldn't be dead. Don't understand why guns used at the range can't be stored on site at the range. Don't get me started on this "Home Defence" crap...

Because the justification you used was for home defense. For that to be effective, it would have to be close, ideally in arms reach. If it's locked in a gun cabinet that you're trying to unlock whilst someone is in your home, and you're half asleep, then it isn't useful for home defense.

A .22 rimfire that you need an FAC for isn't a comparison to an assault rifle that you can freely buy in the states. Fire a .556 indoors, it will go through the wall, and into the street. Or even worse, into the house next door.

That's entirely ammunition-dependent, not to mention the construction of the house. However, dry-wall construction seems to be pretty common in much of the testing that goes on over in the US, suggesting it's often used in built-up areas, so not much help there.

Choose your ammunition carefully.

and can be had for £5.24.

Not sure where you live, even with the police station closed down in my town and have to rely on next town over they are maybe 10 mins away at most.

Meh we are 20 mins from out nearest police station which isnt 24 hrs so at night it would be 50 minutes away.

Of course they have police patrolling in the area so there may be a police car nearer but of course they would be unarmed.

As proven when we did have a small "gun" issue in the area, armed police response was well over an hour. Thats what you get for living in the country. :)

Looks good Cosimo, I like the stars but have no clue what's what :p

It is easy to use as you just hold the page in the direction you will/are looking at. More expensive but suitable for you would be this:

2016: The Night Sky Sights (U.K. Edition): A Guide to Over 100 Astronomical Events to See Without a Telescope.

Which is for absolute beginners and casual stargazers without a telescope.

If you want to use a smartphone/tablet then get the Celestron SkyPortal app. For both ‎iOS and Androind and it's free.

:)

Haha thanks, will have a look at those.. Yeah I'll leave the telescoping for now ;)

Well I started something here didn't I!

Optics not sure yet, it has a flip up rear and A frame front so going to see how they are for a while, then look into a scope/sight.

As for home defense... people rarely break into houses here for this reason, because the general population own guns and WILL use them freely on their property. Same with muggings, would you even attempt to mug someone knowing they are legally allowed to walk around with a handgun?

Anywho, less debate on gun laws and more bought items!

Puts on flame suit and opens a big can of worms...

Yes, I did pay money for it.
Yes, I do like it.
No, I don't care that you hate it.

Actually, love it :)
Nearly bought one myself last year. Something a bit different to the usual 'me too' hatches.
