Interesting. Here they only offer 20Mbit upload with 500 service. It's hfc network also, so will never get even close to fibre upload speeds.
Oh... I thought the new extensions to the network were pretty much all FTTP... the build was completed in 2015, including the road laid - so I'd assumed it would be fibre - I was under the impression Swiss had made a commitment for all brand new infrastructure to be fibre.
*shrug*... I'm happy enough with 500/50
^^ only about £50 pm
I pay £35 pm for only 40Mb/s down- 5Mb/s up... (Plus £12.50pm for the line rental

)
Only 3 months though. Then it's 70.
Actually, it's the first full year - 12 months... but after that, I have the option to renew contract, so hopefully they'll have another autumn/winter offer on the cards
If not... even £70 for 500/50 is pretty good.
Well, that's a load of rubbish. A sub optimal listening environment (how many can day their listening environment is perfect anyway?) does not stop them being fantastic speakers for this application. And what do you mean by 'effective' anyway? When I sit a metre away from my floorstanders they still sound pretty damn 'effective'.
You're making it sound like just because he's not in a 20sqm recording studio they'll sound awful and it's a pointless upgrade.
Hehe... I have them positioned so that the sound meets in the middle of my head... and they're sounding awesome - I think they're actually a bit better than my Q900s, albeit with a touch less bass (as would be expected).
Very nice speakers - every review I've read about the LS50s has been superb. How are you streaming audio to your DAC? Straight from the PC?
They're not disappointing, I'm loving them
Agreed with you until I took a look at how he positioned them myself.
The LS50s definitely need room in the back to breathe to really sing, that's for sure. That's why I have front ported bookshelves instead when using them near field, even if they're on stands (KEF Q300s, 685 S2s, etc). That being said, a good woofer will probably be needed to pair with the LS50s - that thing can't really kick out bass all that much, unsurprising given its size.
He also really needs to prop those speakers up so the drivers are at least level with his ears - they're way off at the moment I bet.
It was either this positions or backs facing the wall directly at less than 10cm... so the angled option gives them more room to breathe.
Stands are too unstable with cats in the house... one of my iQ7s broke because it got knocked over (by me, actually - not the kitties - even if they were close on a few occasions).
I'd need something really sturdy. I'm not yet sure how they'll be laid out in the new place - but it'll be different. There's no excessive issues at their current distance, but with the angle - it's not creating a high pressure zone.
No need for a sub woofer with these, they're good enough.
