I have the Touch (so same as yours except no hub and no wake on move or haptic feedback on the touchscreen). I was very tempted by the ultimate in the black friday sales for £80 but even though I had several chances to grab one I couldn't justify £80 just to be able to control the PS4 (would still need the controller to turn the PS4 on) and the Wii U. I love mine, currently it controls TV, Roku, Tivo, Amp and XB1 in the living room and have it configured to also control the bedroom TV and Now TV box if I desire - but considering the bedroom TV is a Samsung the Now TV box doesn't get much use so makes no sense to use the Touch over the standard Samsung remote there.

I previously had a 525 and then a One, so have been using a Harmony in one form or another for many years now and would never go back to using normal remote controls.

Awesome! Yeah I picked it up in the sale. Been looking at them for a while but always put off by the price.

It really is a nice bit of kit though, I love how responsive it is.

What exactly does it do?

it's a remote control for everything.

PS4, Xbox 1, TV, Bluray, CD player, Sky, Roku, Amazon Fire stick, Apple TV, receiver, amps or even lights.

What you do is set "activity" so when you watch Sky TV, you need the TV on, your Sky box and also perhaps your 5.1 surround sound amps on.

You press 1 button and it will turn everything on. You never pick up a sky remote or TV remote. The harmony can change the channels on the Sky box, the volume on the amp.

Then when you are bored perhaps, press the button for PS4, and it will turn off the Sky box, turn on PS4 and when you are all done, press Off and it will shut down everything.

I went from like 5 remotes on the coffee table to 1.

But then it is also more than that. For example if I want to watch Virgin Media and didnt have a harmony I would need to use 3 controllers, one to turn the TV on, one to turn the AMP on and then one to turn the TIVO on.

With the Harmony I set it up and then press the watch VM button, this then turns on the TV and puts it to the correct HDMI input, turns on the AMP and puts that on the correct input and then turns on the TIVO as well. The one controller will then control the TIVO to change channels, access recordings etc and also change the volume via the AMP.

Then if I wanted to switch to watch a film I press Roku and the AMP changes to the Roku input, and the controller changes to control the ROKU for navigation, play pause etc and the AMP for volume.

So its a really expensive remote that replaces other remotes but has some customisation - saving you about 10 seconds? Putting it bluntly, ofc.

Got my Logitech Harmony Ultimate today.

Proper impressed with it. My last harmony was a very old one, the 555 I think. Technology has come a long way since then. Having the hub is amazing, the remote works perfectly with all my stuff. Absolutely worth every penny.

It's nice when you buy something and you are genuinely impressed by it.

I've had one for about a year now (and was a little annoyed when about 5 weeks after I bought it they had it in the sale:p), but love it.

It's the fact that it took me down from 7 remotes, often needing 3 for a single activity to one.

How many devices do you have around your TV? That tends to make a difference as to how you view fancy remotes.

When you reach say
TV
Games console
Surround sound
Cable/Satellite STB
Fire TV (or HTPC)
DVD/BD player

You suddenly find that you need about 2-3 remotes for many things, and somewhere to put them all to hand, it also lets you directly access inputs on most TV's without cycling through them, which most manufactures supplied handsets do not do.
If you're trying to keep things tidy (say with the cable box etc hidden away) the harmony hub lets you place a sender behind a closed door.

The real joy in the likes of the Harmony series is that you go from having to swap between remotes (and keeping space for 4+ by you), to one.
As I say, going from 7 remotes* cluttering my desk to one, and not having to cycle through 8 inputs to get the right one on my TV, then doing the same with the surround sound, and once it's set up it really is pretty much idiot proof, so your potentially quite complex setup becomes easy for anyone to use (they don't need to remember that, for example, the TV needs to be on Input 3, the HDMI needs to be on input 3 and the Surround sound needs to be on Aux to get your BLu-ray player to run in 5.1).

With the Ultimate etc using the Hub (which IIRC can be bought with just a very basic remote) you can also control stuff using your mobile/tablet.

*I have, 2x BD players, a fire TV box, Cable box, HDMI switch (as my TV only has 3 HDMI inputs), PC, and surround kit all connected to the TV.

I find the tech behind it interesting and it is of course more convenient - but personally, I could never warrant £150-200 on an remote to save a few seconds here and there.

To answer your question, Werewolf, I have a TV/Sky box and an amp. I turn the amp on at the same time as the TV with my hands when I walk into the room, and then they've both booted by the time I get back to sofa - so I just turn the Sky box on using the remote and be done with it. I of course understand that the convenience and 'worth' of the remote scales with each product you add to it, though.

I want to upgrade my Harmony Ultimate to the new Logitech Harmony Elite remote but they cost around £280 at the moment

once you try it, you will understand.

I did many years ago and I got fed up of having to switch remotes on the Harmony.
It would be better if you could photograph your original remote and then set touch points on a screen so they look the same.
Now there's an idea or perhaps some company has already done it.

You shouldn't have had to switch between any remotes on the harmony unless you were using it in device mode which isn't really how its meant to be used.

I've been using them for the last 8-9 years and wouldn't go back to having multiple remotes again.

This completes the redecoration of the hallways (up and down). Not sure whether it was a great deal or not (however I am happy with the price) but all the carpet, underlay (11mm Tredaire Dreamwalk) and fitting was £500.

looks very similar to the carpets we have just had fitted in the house.
they have a good thick pile.

always best to get a good quality underlay fitted. we had to shave the bottom of every door in the house after getting ours fitted.

for the 3 bedrooms, top landing, stairs and lounge I was just shy of £2000 and that was with a good discount as Í got the carpet and underlay at cost and done work to my mates van to cover labor and fuel so it worked out fine

I only recently got one - I don't like the lag on it very much... can get quite frustrating when browsing through Kodi.
