You can't sell the following but you can own them

flick knives (also called ‘switchblades’ or ‘automatic knives’) - where the blade is hidden inside the handle and shoots out when a button is pressed
butterfly knives - where the blade is hidden inside a handle that splits in two around it, like wings; the handles swing around the blade to open or close it
disguised knives, eg where the blade is hidden inside a belt buckle or fake mobile phone
gravity knives
sword-sticks
samurai swords (with some exceptions, including antiques and swords made to traditional methods before 1954)
hand or foot-claws
push daggers
hollow kubotan (cylinder-shaped keychain) holding spikes
shuriken (also known as ‘death stars’ or ‘throwing stars’)
kusari-gama (sickle attached to a rope, cord or wire)
kyoketsu-shoge (hook-knife attached to a rope, cord or wire)
kusari (weight attached to a rope, cord or wire)

Banned knives
There is a ban on the sale of some knives:

flick knives (also called ‘switchblades’ or ‘automatic knives’) - where the blade is hidden inside the handle and shoots out when a button is pressed
butterfly knives - where the blade is hidden inside a handle that splits in two around it, like wings; the handles swing around the blade to open or close it

This is not a complete list of banned knives. Contact your local police to check if a knife is illegal.

Isn't the legality of a knife purely where it is at the time.

No. There are laws which make some knives completely illegal. For example, butterfly knives and automatic openers.

You do have a valid point though, I've got a huge kukri on my mantelpiece, completely legal. If I was to carry it out and about without a good reason then yes it would be illegal.

I've been usig earphones that came with a phone years ago so thought it about time to try something different.

As someone who goes through headphones like they do dishwater, these are fantastic. The outer plastic is softer than cheese though, be careful as it dents and scratches like crazy. The sound quality is fantastic though, although my standards aren't all that high.

Thanks, that has been added to my reading list. Vulcan 607 was a thoroughly engrossing book and the Space Shuttle era is just as fascinating.

Just FYI the whole saying it for work so its legal has a grey area. You are allowed to have it AT work, but for example if you pop to the shop across the street with the knife in your pocket and the police stop you, if they are having a badday they will say you don't have a reason to have it and arrest you and theres nothing you can do about it. You have to be very careful about it as the "purpose" part of the law is left up the officer who stops you.

I would carry around a small penknife at all times, but you risk getting on the bad side of a police officer.

You can carry that in the UK without needing a reason. You can't go to a pub etc with it though.
