IMDB removing message boards from their site

Looks like I'm in the minority here as I have been a member of IMDB since 2003 (used it for many years before that) and regularly read their boards. Usually it is for background information on certain films or additional information on actors etc.
Old TV shows would sometimes have interesting posts, sometimes from people who had worked as extras on the set or known information about actors who had disappeared after their one hit wonder. For me that was a point of interest when using that site, which I do most days.

Even though I didn't often post to the message boards, and maybe I should have contributed more, I did find them a very useful resource.

I doubt it. Obviously they can see who visits what and you have to think it's a small percentage. Even in this thread I think we can see more people didn't even know it existed, then people that used/visited it.
A small percentage still works out as a large amount of people who will no longer be using IMDB. 9 times out of 10 my visits are due to the forums and a large amount of people are in the same situation as me. My bets are IMDB takes a noticeable drop in traffic after this change comes in. Not enough to kill it but enough of a drop to show in monthly visits.

Saying that it does make sense to shut some of the forums sections which hardly get any use.

I won't miss the boards. Some years ago I went into The Shield boards and the first threat title was a massive spoiler for a season final episode that ruined what would have been a huge shock.

Just gone to the message boards picked a radom post

My top films list

1: Mullholland Drive :p

No more message boards?

who cares lol

Same.
OP should be suspended for putting a link up without reading the content, with a misleading thread title.

I did read the content of the link i posted. That is why i thought i would share it here, in this section of the OcUK boards. I probably wasn't thinking correctly when i chose the title for the thread but that can't be changed now. :o

The closure of the IMDB boards will be a big loss for me, as a film fan. I really enjoy finding out as much as i can about actors and films/ shows. IMDB has really helped me discover so much, mostly down to other users input on the individual boards, sometimes years old but still relevant. There must be hundreds of thousands, if not millions of individual boards on that site. Without the board section on each IMDB listing, i might as well just use Wikipedia although i accept that a Wiki page likely takes information from IMDB already.

Somebody change the title from "The end of IMDB?" to "The end of IMDB Message Boards" please.

Anyway, who uses IMDB Message Boards when we have Easyrider?

Again, it could only be 3 or 4% based on what people are replying here. That probably doesn't count as a large drop. And again, I'm sure IMDB will know exactly how many visits are to the message boards and think it's an acceptable drop, so can't be much.

That's a drop of what is it around 10million people a month? You don't count 10 million people as a large drop?

Most of the message board content is bilge.
Used the forums for absolutely donkeys years, quite heavily I might add. It's quite startling how dumb posters have become over the years. I am glad they're getting rid of it tbh.

Just noticed this today. Kind of gutted really, I almost always browse them after watching a movie to see others thoughts etc. Is there any kind of alternative out there?

The boards were horrible to read organisational wise, but you would often find some fantastic discussions, theories, observations in there. Sad if they are gone for good.

Used to love reading the messages on Bladerunner, Videodrome, The Thing etc.

As long as the Trivia section to each movie stays I don't care. Love a browse through those after a movie!

loved the IMDB message boards. RIP

nothing like going on after watching a movie to see what other people thought of it

shutter island
ex machina

good reads. sad to hear this news

lol @ those saying they didn't know they existed, your loss all these years

Loved the message boards but in the last few years can understand why they are removing them. Rife with fake accounts posting incorrect reviews/comments on films. Producers, Directors and actors within said film posting positive comments when the film is an absolute stinker just to get the ratings up. Then there were the trolls just engaging in arguements. For me it got so you couldnt figure out what was a real honest comment and what was being bumped up.
