Immigrating to Australia

You might as well give it a try first. I'm going out next month for a 6 week holiday with the GF. If we can find work out there, then I'll stay for 3-6 months :)

Defo the way to do it, don't sell up before hand.

I'm interested to read this as should myslelf and family wish....
Snip...
Mind you Australia really is an awfully long way away from family back here in the UK - but the lifestyle is such a draw for children and family life!

I think the issue was just finding work, like over here there's a bit of a shortage of jobs, so many are oversubscribed. It might just have been that from an employer point of view, if you have two equally suitable candidates where one requires sponsorship fees, it's a no brainier which you'd employ.

I'll find out more details when they return, which is in about a month or so.

Bit of Advice

Dont head to NSW then.

Head to the other states for work. Ive heard that if Australia didnt have NSW we wouldnt even be in a Recession. So im guessing finding work in NSW could be harder then the other states.

Good luck:)

I was thinking Adelaide, Brisbane or Melbourne :)

Just to clear up a few misconceptions here....

If you have the right skills then getting into Aus is very easy. Took me and my family 7 months from deciding to come here and landing in Darwin.
It helps greatly if you have a job offer prior to leaving the UK.
On the down side... the Australian Govt has just slashed its 457 (skilled migration) visa intake by 14% for 09/10 and i think will cut it again in the budget.

NZ is harder to get into than Aus. My parents tried and have ended up in Adelaide because they found the process to get into NZ harder.

Oh and for a 457 visa you dont need an AIDS test. You need a Hep C Test if you have tatoos and everyone needs a chest X Ray for TB. AIDS test is required if you go from a temp 457 visa to become a permanent resident.

Oh and Jamesdavid3 please tell everyone you know how much AUS is a joke and not to bother... i like the population and lifestyle here just the way it is!
