Booooooooo. :cry::D

Whilst there's a MM thread active, I have a question. I know it says

Is there any chance the admin take a look at updating the allowed list to include bikes? There is a large number of active members on here that are cyclists, and to be honest I'm struggling to see why they're not allowed.
Gadgets and tech section - cycle computer for £1500 with free bike thrown in? :cry:

As others have said, the MM is more about having a trusted place for buying and selling goods at a reasonable market value (for example, profiteering is strictly forbidden on MM).

It's a community marketplace, hence the focus on only having access for active community members.

This 100%, I tend to sell a fair bit lower than I would on eBay, mostly because it's pretty much hassle free, zero fees, and generally you're not going to get scammed.

Totally agree with the access requirements. I browse the forums that I have interest in but only post occasionally as I would rather post a reply that is relevant, rather than something that just bumps up my post count.

I barely speak in my regular life let alone online :D There are many people who contribute almost nothing but have thousands of posts of just rubbish, It seems a little bit crazy changing the requirements now.

If it's a security /trust issue perhaps there could be a way to get "verified" Identity and /or address verification with the admin /mod team or something like that for access? Just a thought for the future ;)

Post count alone does seem like a pretty blunt metric. If it was up to me, GD and SC posts wouldn't count for starters. I'm not in charge though! :p

They've said multiple times it's not about the post count. It's to do with being involved in the OcUK community.

To be precise, this is what was said in the OP:

It should be remembered that MM access is a privilege, not a right and there are three criteria needed for access: 180 days membership, 1000 posts and be an active member of the community.

So it is 3 things.

The point is, 1000 posts of political baiting and culture wars in GD appears to be worth the same as 1000 thoughtful and helpful computer hardware posts. That's the rules, and I'm not making a big deal about it, just seems like a blunt tool for measuring one's "contribution" that's all.

My thoughts exactly. It's easy to bump the post count with short and trivial posts but not for those of us that like to contribute when posting and post consistently, albeit very slowly.

As I am not far away from 1000 I could post more random comments to get over the line, but I'll wait it out until I get the required total whenever that is (not that I have used the MM to date, but nice to have the option)
